Earlene S. McClenny
CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Earlene S. McClenny, 74, died February 17, 2008. She was the widow of Willie Conway “Buddy” McClenny.
Survivors include three daughters, Kim Wilkey, Jodi Terry and Kathy Kallam, all of Chesapeake; one son, Gregory Kallam of Portsmouth; two brothers, James Satterfield of Asheville and Aldene Satterfield of Gates County; sister, Carol LeMonds of Las Vegas; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A graveside service was conducted Wednesday in Rosewood Memorial Park, Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Emma Lee
LITTLETON n Emma Brooks Lee, formerly of Garysburg, died February 17, 2008 at Duke University Hospital, Durham.

Venechia Williams
GREENVILLE n Venechia Vaughan Williams, 37, a native of Hertford County, died February 16, 2008 at her residence.
She was a CNA-1.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Windsor, by the Rev. Alma Lucas. Burial will be in the Springhill Church Cemetery, Lewiston. Cherry’s Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge.
She is survived by her mother, Dorothy Sessoms.

CHESAPEAKE, VA n Edward Brown, 66, died February 15, 2008 at Chesapeake Health & Rehab Center.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Gilliam Funeral Home Chapel. A visitation will be held from 7-8 p.m. Friday . Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.
R. Owen Lassiter
AULANDER
– Rupert Owen Lassiter, 78, of the 700 block of St. John Millennium Road died February 18, 2008 in Roanoke Chowan Hospital.
Mr. Lassiter was a native of Hertford County, a son of the late Rupert Carlton and Mettie Outlaw Lassiter, a member of Millennium Pentecostal Holiness Church, and a retired Brick Mason.
A celebration service of Mr. Lassiter’s life will be 3:00 P.M. Thursday, February 21, 2008 at Millennium Pentecostal Holiness Church, with Rev. Paul Edwards and Rev. Sandy Outlaw officiating. Burial will follow in Job Cemetery.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife; Lula Jones Lassiter; one daughter; Vicki L. Drew and husband Eddie, Aulander, NC.; one sister, Louise L. Hurdle, Ahoskie, NC.; two grandchildren, Titia Vaughan and husband Mike, Tracy Burkett and husband Scott, Aulander, NC.; and three great grandchildren, Michael Vaughan, Ashley Burkett and Austin Burkett.

Curtis H. Overton
AHOSKIE n Curtis Harrell Overton, 86, of the 1800 block of Early Station Road, died Monday, February 18, 2008, at his home.
Mr. Overton was born in Hertford County, a son of the late C. Lonnie and Nettie Harrell Overton. He was a member of Center Grove Baptist Church and attended Liberty Free Will Baptist Church. Curtis was a Navy veteran of WWII and was a retired farmer.
He is survived by his wife Mabel Burden Overton; daughters, Pam Watson and husband, Tom of Henderson, NC, Lori Feher and husband, Ricky of Ahoskie, Debbie Pickeral and husband, Mike of Stafford, VA, and Lisa Adams of Ahoskie; sons, Sidney Overton of Fredericksburg, VA, Larry Overton and wife, Karen of West Palm Beach, FL, and Keith Overton of Ahoskie; a brother, Henry S. Overton of Hexlena; 21 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Rodney C. Overton in 2003.
A celebration of life service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 21, 2008, at Garrett Funeral Home-Ashley Chapel, 205 NC Highway 42 West Ahoskie, with the Rev. Paul Ange and Rev. Tommy Kiker officiating.
Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens with military honors.

Tiffany D. Lynch
ROCKY MOUNT n Tiffany Dawn Lynch, died February 17, 2008.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Mt. Zion First Baptist Church by the Rev. Everett Silver. Interment will be in Gardens of Gethsemane. A visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at H.D. Pope Funeral Home.
Willie M. Jones
GATES – Willie M. Jones, a native of Gates County, died February 17, 2008 at Down East Health &
Rehab, Gatesville.
Jones was a member of New Piney Wood Chapel where he was past chairman of the Deacon Board and past trustee. He was a member of Jephthah Masonic Lodge #174 and also a veteran for the US Army where he served during World War II.
Survivors include six sons, George of Drum Hill, Tommie, Kellay, Willie Jr., Hurley and Donald Jones, all of Gates; five daughters, Willie M. Wilkins of Gates, Bettie J. Boone of Sunbury, Rev. Mary Wiggins and Delores Foster of Drum Hill, Bertha Brown of
Gatesville; a host of grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at New Piney Wood Chapel by Rev. Richard
Curry. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
