Ruth L. Spencer

CHESAPEAKE, Va. n Ruth Long Spencer, 80, a native of Rich Square, died January 28, 2008. She was the widow of Joseph Ray Long Sr. and William E. Spencer.

Mrs. Spencer was a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Friendship Chapter 57 and South Norfolk Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Linda Boyette, Sandra Womack and Cindy Wellons; a son, Joseph R. Long Jr., all of Chesapeake; a sister, Helen B. Gallop of Chesapeake; three brothers, Earl C. Bunch Jr. of Chesapeake, David J. Bunch of Springfield, Va., and Ralph C. Bunch of Florence, S.C.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Francis Gay Chapel of Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, 1146 Rodgers St., Chesapeake, by the Rev. Joseph G. Savinsky and Dr. D.B. Martin. Interment will be in Rosewood Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 500 Plume St. East, Suite 110, Norfolk, VA 23510. Sharon J. Jones

GERMANTOWN, MD – Sharon Jenkins Jones died January 28, 2008 at her home in Germantown.  

Mrs. Jones was principal of Gaithersburg Elementary School in

Gaithersburg.

A memorial service will be conducted at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the school.  Memorial services

will also be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 2 at First Baptist Church Murfreesboro by Rev. Robert D. Richardson III. Pauline Grant

CONWAY n Pauline Grant, 85, a native of Northampton County, died January 28, 2008 at his residence.

She was a member of Nebo Missionary Baptist Church, Murfreesboro and retired custodian worker at Conway Middle School.

Survivors include her daughters, Dorothy Perrin of Conway, Majorie Perrin of Raleigh and Lorraine Lassiter of Conway; and eight grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Nebo Missionary Baptist Church by Dr. William F. Denson Jr. Burial will be the Wilder-Cherry Family Cemetery, Aulander.

William T. Bond

WINDSOR n William T. Bond, 86, died January 25, 2008 at the Golden Years Nursing Home, Fountain.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Landing Baptist Church, Windsor. A visitation will be held one hour before the funeral. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Gilliam Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge.

Jamesha T. Miller

WINDSOR n Jamesha T. Miller, 10, died January 28, 2008 in Windsor.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bertie Academy “Old Southwestern Middle School, Windsor. A visitation will be held from 7-8 Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Cedar Landing Church Cemetery. Gilliam Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge.

John Perry

UPPER MARLBORO, MD n John Perry, 67, formerly of Rich Square, died January 24, 2008 at his residence.

A visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. with the funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, Washington, D.C. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1 at the Majette Family Cemetery, Rich Square. McQuire Funeral Home, Washington and H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids, is in charge.

Edith A. Harper

SUNBURY – Edith Ann Harper, 67, a native of Knoxville, Tenn., died January 29, 2008. She was the widow of Bud Harper.

Mrs. Harper retired as a registered nurse with Obici Hospital. She was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Sunbury.

Survivors include her daughter, Sandy Leigh Harper of Suffolk; a son, of Windsor, Va.; two granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter.

A memorial service was held Friday at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Hwy. 32 North, Sunbury. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church at P.O. Box 153, Sunbury, NC 27979. Parr Funeral Home & Crematory was in charge. Condolences may be registered at www.parrfuneralhome.com.

Cleophus Squire

GASTON n Cleophus Squire, 61, died January 28, 2008 at VCU Health Systems in Richmond, Va.

A visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m. Friday in the Roanoke Rapids Chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Cool Spring Baptist Church by the Rev. Richard Webb. Interment will be in Cool Spring Baptist Church Cemetery, Gaston.
