LASKER – Northeast Academy senior Danielle Hallman scored 13 points to lead her team over to victory Bethel Christian Academy here Tuesday.

Hallman and Betty Edwards (10 points) were both in double figures for Northeast in their 46-24 varsity girls’ basketball victory over Bethel.

Northeast came out of the gate well, getting a hoop from Edwards and a free throw from Callie Burgess to take a 3-2 lead.

Erin Young gave Bethel their only lead of the game moments later with her hoop, but was answered by consecutive hoops from Hallman and two free throws by Burgess that staked the home team to a 9-4 lead.

After Young scored again for Bethel, Northeast opened the second quarter scoring with LeAnn Barnes hitting two shots at the charity stripe and Edwards scoring on a jumper to make it 13-6.

Jamee Mizelle scored for Bethel to get within 13-8, but Edwards scored and both Hallman and Burgess hit free throws to help Northeast take a 19-9 lead at halftime.

The third quarter started with Bethel getting hoops from Kristin Adams and Mindy Miller sandwiched around a Barnes score for Northeast.

Northeast then went on a 7-0 run led by three points from Barnes and two each from Burgess and Edwards. That gave the home-standing Eagles a 30-13 advantage.

Miller hit two free throws and Kelli Hoggard scored a basket to close the gap to 32-17, but Northeast got four straight hoops from Hallman to close out the third quarter and open the fourth with a 40-17 lead.

The game was played relatively evenly the rest of the way for Northeast to claim their second victory over Bethel in three games this season.

Northeast will host Albemarle School Friday night in a Tarheel Independent Conference game while Bethel stays outside of conference by welcoming Gramercy School.
