Julian R. Bristow

CONWAY n Julian R. Bristow, 91, a native of Northampton County, died November 5, 2007 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie. He was the widower of Ethel Marie Barnes Bristow.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at New Hope United Methodist Church, Lasker, by the Rev. Bob Deacon. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to New Hope United Methodist Church or to Pine Forest Rest Home. Massey Funeral Home, Jackson, is in charge.

Bristow along with his brother, Irvin operated Bristow Brothers Saw Mill. He was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his son, Tim Bristow of Dusty Hill Road, Conway; a daughter, Ellen Liverman of Murfreesboro; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Bernice Lassiter Eason

AHOSKIE n Bernice Lassiter Eason, daughter of the late Henry and Blanche Lassiter, passed away on Friday, November 2, 2007, at Potomac General Hospital in Woodbridge, Virginia, while residing for the last month of her life with her daughter and family in Woodbridge. She was 84 years old.

In 1949, Bernice married Silas Eason, who preceded her in death. At an early age, she joined Second Baptist Union Church, where she served on the Trustee Board and remained active until her death.

Leaving to cherish loving memories are: her daughter, Alvita Eason Barrow (Eduardo) of Woodbridge, Virginia; two granddaughters, Maya and Zina of Woodbridge; three sisters, Audrey Lewter (Vernon), Patricia Askew Poole (Louis), and Dana Askew, all of Ahoskie; one brother, Carrington Lassiter (Ruth) of Ahoskie; five sisters-in-law, Mildred Lassiter of Powellsville, Helena Lassiter of Ahoskie, Laura Dean Freeman Lassiter of Berlin, Maryland, Laretta Lassiter of Ahoskie and Bernice R. Eason of Norfolk, Virginia; one aunt, Clarice Skeeter of Ahoskie; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A homegoing celebration will be held on Friday, November 9, at 1:00 p.m. at New Ahoskie Baptist Church. A wake will be held from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Second Baptist Union Church, on Thursday, November 8.

Hunter’s Funeral Home is in charge.

Curtis Bellamy

ROCKY MOUNT n Curtis Bellamy, died November 5, 2007 at Nash General Hospital.

A funeral will be conducted at 12 noon Saturday at the chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Rocky Mount. A visitation will be held from

6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Dorothea Willoughby

AHOSKIE n Dorothea Melenson Willoughby, 75, a native of Kansas City, Missouri, died November 6, 2007 in her home.

Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date. Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, is in charge.

Mrs. Willoughby was a former government employee and a homemaker. She was an active member of St. Charles Catholic Church, Ahoskie and a member of the Ahoskie Women’s Club.

Survivors include her husband, William T. Willoughby; a daughter, Victoria Younkin of Massachusetts; a son, Perry “Rick” Henly of Tennessee; and two brothers, Ralph Melenson of Arkansas and Henry Melenson of Missouri.

Steven Lambert

WELDON n Steven Lambert died November 2, 2007 at Halifax Regional Medical Center, Roanoke Rapids.

A visitation will be held on Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Roanoke Rapids Chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home. Interment will be in Oakridge Cemetery, Weldon.

Clinton L. Wiggins

KELFORD n Clinton Lee “Charlie Brown Wiggins, 62, a native of Bertie County, died November 1, 2007 at Rich Square Health Care Center, Rich Square.

Wiggins was a member of Mill Branch Baptist Church, Aulander, and was a retired welder with Gregory Manufacturing Company.

Survivors include his son, James Thomas Outlaw of Newport News, Va.; a daughter, Ashley Wiggins of Greenville; brothers, Rufus Lee and Alexander Lee, both of Aulander, Thomas Lee of Manson, William Taylor of Powellsville, Jimmie Flood Jr. of Kelford, Wilson Flood of Kissimmee, FL, and William Flood of New York; sisters, Margaret Lee Combo of Petersburg, Evelyn Futrell of Aulander, Virginia Jones of Roxobel, Mary Lee Johnson, Clementine Moore, Catherine Clark and Ruth Bowden, all of Kelford, Eunice Ward of Lewiston, Doris Flood and Shirletha Flood, both of Rich Square; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mill Branch Baptist Church, Aulander, by the Rev. Ronald Dolberry. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.

Joan P. Coppage

PATERSON, NJ n Joan Pugh Coppage, 52, a native of Paterson, and formerly of Rich Square, died November 3, 2007.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Branches Chapel Baptist Church, Rich Square, by the Rev. Tony Flood. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

She was employed as a nursing home activity director in New Jersey.

Survivors include her husband, James Coppage of Paterson; and her mother, Bernettie Pugh of Rich Square.

Lawrence Dickens

CONWAY n Lawrence “Pig” Dickens, died November 7, 2007 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital.

June D. Griffith

SEABOARD – Mrs. June Davis Griffith, 56 of Seaboard, NC, died Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at her residence.

Beloved wife, mother and friend, Mrs. Griffith was born Nov. 13, 1950 in Frankfort, Germany, the daughter of the late James Alvin Davis, Sr. and the late Elizabeth Kuhn Davis.

She was also preceded in death by her brother, Phillip Davis.

She was a former retail manager and a member of Seaboard Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 39 years, James “Billy” Griffith; a daughter, Vickie Griffith of the home; a son, Ric Griffith of the home; four sisters, Bridgette Farlow of Burlington, Mary Ann Eiler of Yanceyville, Christine Christiansen of Coquille, Oregon, Cornelia Ward of Cofield; three brothers, James Alvin Davis, Jr. of Washington State, Thomas Ray Davis of Gibsonville, Roy Michael “Mike” Davis of Emporia, Va.; and 21 nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held, Friday, November 9, 2007 at 2:00 PM at Seaboard Baptist Church with burial in Meherrin Baptist Church Cemetery in Murfreesboro, with Rev. Steve Trussell officiating.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson Thursday evening from 7 until 8:30 PM.

Flowers are welcome, however, memorial contributions may be made in honor of June Griffith, to Seaboard Baptist Church, Seaboard, NC 27876.

She will be loved and missed by one and all.
