Elsie B. Johnson

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Elsie Mae Boone “Sister” Johnson, 70, a native of Gates, died November 2007. She was the widow of Cyrus M. Johnson.

Mrs. Johnson was a retired food service worker for Portsmouth Public Schools. She was a member of Rose of Sharon United Church in Suffolk.

Survivors include her mother, Dessie Boone Coston; two daughters, Diane Trusty and Evelyn Campbell, both of Portsmouth; six sons, Lavane Johnson, Cyrus Johnson Jr., Norris Johnson, all of Portsmouth, Floyd W. Johnson of Chesapeake, Rickey Johnson

and Eric Johnson, both of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; four sisters, Doris Adell Cross of Gates, Mildred Dillard and Kathryn Hampton, both of Portsmouth, and Nell Smith of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two brothers, George Vernon Boone of Atlantic City, N.J. and Clarence Jefferson Boone; 17 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

A life celebration service will be held at Rose of Sharon United Church, 2440 Nansemond Pkwy., Suffolk, at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will take place at Boone Family Cemetery in Gates County. The family will assemble at 1601 Spratley St., Portsmouth, at 10 a.m. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.jtfisherfuneralservices.com. J.T. Miriam B. Kirby

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Miriam B. Kirby, 81, a native of Colerain, died November 1, 2007. She was the widow of Robert O. Kirby

Survivors include her daughters, Sandra K. Oldham and Carolyn Burton; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Lynn Hardaway. A reception will follow in the funeral home. Virginia P. Barkley

SEVERN -Virginia Prince Barkley, 83, a native of Southampton County, Va., died November 2, 2007.

Mrs. Barkley taught for approximately 10 years in Waverly, Franklin, Oceana and Alexandria, Va. She was a member of Severn Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph Welford Barkley; two sons, Jody Barkley of Ahoskie and Bruce Barkley of Holly Springs; one sister, Elizabeth P. Barnes of Severn; and three grandchildren.

A funeral was conducted Monday in Severn Baptist Church by the Rev. Tim Hogan and the Rev. John Dean. Burial followed in Severn Cemetery. Wright Funeral Home, Boykins Chapel, was in charge. Elizabeth L. Allen

SUFFOLK, Va. – Elizabeth Louise Michelle Donaldson Allen, 24, a native of Portsmouth, died October 31, 2007, in Suffolk as the result of an automobile accident.

Mrs. Allen was a homemaker and had attended Reynoldson Baptist Church in Gates. Survivors include her husband, Wesley Gardner Allen; her son, Hunter Levy Donaldson; her mother and stepfather, Syble and Robbie Shellito of Gates; her father, Harry Stephen Donaldson of Chesapeake; sisters, April Shellito and Lauren Rodil, both of Gates; brothers, John Shellito of Murfreesboro, Justin Rodil and Bobby Shellito, both of Gates; maternal grandparents, Joe and Marion Pecsek of Corapeake, and Levy and Shirley Radford of Big Island, Va.; paternal grandparents, Robert and Priscilla Shellito of Suffolk and Harry and Beth Donaldson of Georgia; and great-grandmother, Mary Lou Rogers of Elizabeth City.

A funeral was held Sunday in Reynoldson Baptist Church by the Rev. Todd Higginson and the Rev. Billy Presley. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Annie Outlaw

WINDSOR n Annie Outlaw, 82w, died November 2, 2007 in Rocky Mount.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Indian Woods Baptist Church, Windsor. Burial will be in Indian Woods Cemetery. Gilliam Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge.
