Deloris S. Sellers
GATES – Deloris Smith Sellers, 76, died November 11, 2007.
Private services will be held at a later date. Swindell Funeral and Cremation Services, Hertford, is in charge.
Thelma B. Moody
GASTON – Thelma B. Moody, 88, died November 10, 2007.
A funeral was conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Gaston Baptist Church. Burial was in Moody Memorial Gardens. Cofield Mortuary was in charge.
Frank Norman
ROANOKE RAPIDS n Frank Norman, 65, died November 12, 2007 at Halifax Regional Medical Center, Roanoke Rapids.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete. H.D. Pope Funeral Home is in charge.
Elsie Brown
LEWISTON n Elsie Louise Spruill Brown, 62, a native of Northampton County, died November 13, 2007 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.
Mrs. Brown was a member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church, Rich Square and a self-employed foster care mother.
Survivors include a son, Larkel Brown of Lewiston; daughters, Joyce Brown of Lewiston, Peggy Brown of Bronx, NY, Alice Brown of Windsor, Delitha Cepeada of Bronx and Clarissa Wilkins of Kannapolis; a sister, Queen Sawyer of Woodland; brothers, Ernest Spruill of Lewiston and Donnell Spruill of Carrolton, VA; and 15 grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Chapel Hill Baptist Church by Pastor Arthur Clark. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.
Walter K. Majette
BROOKLYN, N.Y. -Walter Kurt Majette, died November 8, 2007.
A homegoing celebration will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Mount Sinai Baptist Church, Como. Wm. M. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home, Franklin, Va., is in charge.
Raymond W. “Ray” Magette, Sr.
AHOSKIE n Raymond Williams “Ray” Magette, Sr., 81, died Tuesday, November 13, 2007, at Guardian Care of Ahoskie.
Mr. Magette was born in Courtland, VA, a son of the late Davis Chestine and Grace Williams Magette. He was a member of Ahoskie United Methodist Church and the Ahoskie Rotary Club. After graduating from Courtland High School in Courtland, VA and the University of Richmond, and serving in the U.S. Army in WWII, Mr. Magette founded Magette Well and Pump Company, Inc. of Ahoskie.
He is survived by a daughter, Cheryl Magette Campbell and husband, Leo of Knightdale, NC; two sons, Raymond Williams Magette, Jr. and wife, Debbie of Ahoskie, and Kurt Robert Magette and wife, Sue of Richmond, VA; two brothers, Robert Lee Magette of Smithfield, VA, and Davis Chestine Magette, Jr. of Courtland, VA: and grandchildren, Marion Greer Campbell Reep, Darby Ann Campbell, Colburn Thad Magette, Sarah Grace Magette, Garrett Lee Magette, Ross Patrick Magette, Reid Williams Magette, and Brenna Paige Magette. Ray was predeceased by his wife, Patricia Mabie Magette and a sister, Wren Magette Harrell.
A celebration of life memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 16, 2007, at Garrett Funeral Home, 205 NC Highway 42 West, Ahoskie, with the Rev. Dr. John Dutton officiating. A private burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, and other times at the home of Bill Magette, 123 Beechwood Rd., Ahoskie. Flowers are welcomed or memorial donations may be made to Ahoskie United Methodist Church, 212 West Church Street, Ahoskie, NC, 27910.
Armsted T. Lassiter, Jr.
ONANCOCK, Va. -Mr. Armsted Thomas Lassiter, Jr., age 73 died at the Shore Memorial Hospital in Nassawadox, VA on Tuesday, November 13, 2007.
Mr. Lassiter was born and raised in Rich Square, NC where he graduated from Rich Square High School.
While at Rich Square High School Mr. Lassiter played football and basketball.
Following graduation he attended the College of William and Mary where he played basketball and ran track.
Mr. Lassiter went to work with the Waters and Martin Wholesale Hardware Corporation where he worked and retired after forty-three years of service.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Belhaven, VA and loved hunting and fishing.
Preceding him in death are his mother and father, Betty Tyler Lassiter and Armsted Thomas Lassiter, Sr.
Survivors include his wife, Edith Inez Wills, one daughter, Debbie Lassiter Thigpen and her husband Herman of Kinston, NC, three sons, Richard Thomas Lassiter and his wife, Michele of Hurricane, UT, Armsted “Ace” Thomas Lassiter, III and his wife Maria of South Mills, NC and Thomas Green Lassiter of Tampa, FL, three stepsons, Paul Wills of Tulsa, OK, Pat Wills and his wife Katy of Cleveland, OK and Preston Wills of Onancock, VA, three step daughters, Pamela Jones and her husband Billy of Drumright, OK, Penny Powell and her husband Brad of Cleveland, OK and Polly Wills of Skiatook, OK.
Also surviving are ten grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, November 16, 2007 at 1:00 PM at the Chapel of Sykes Funeral Service in Rich Square with the Rev. Bob Rogers officiating.
The interment will follow at the Roxobel-Kelford Cemetery in Roxobel, NC.
The family will receive friends at Sykes Funeral Service on Friday from Noon-1:00 P.M. prior to funeral services.
Ronald A. Braye
RICHMOND, Va. n Ronald Alexander Braye, 42, a native of New York, died November 12, 2007 in New York.
A viewing will be held from 8 to 9 a.m. Saturday at Hertford County Undertakers Chapel, Winton. Burial will be in Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Colerain.
