Clarice H. Skeeter
PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Clarice Hall Skeeter, 91, of the 2900 block of Magnolia Street, formerly of Ahoskie, died Wednesday, November 7, 2007 in Guardian Care of Ahoskie.
Mrs. Skeeter was born in Hertford County, a daughter of the late Willie T. Hall and Gladys Hall Reynolds. She was a member of Pleasant Plains Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Survivors include her son, Pomeroy M. Skeeter of Germantown, MD; a grandson Eric Kevin Skeeter of Hagerstown, MD; and a great grandson, Michael Eric Skeeter.
Besides her parents, Mrs. Skeeter was predeceased by her husband, Pomeroy B. Skeeter.
A celebration of life graveside service was conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 9, 2007, at Pleasant Plains Baptist Church Cemetery with Byron Russell officiating.
The family received friends at Garrett Funeral Home, 205 NC Highway 42 West, Ahoskie, from 9:00 until 10:30 a.m. Friday, prior to services.
Garrett Funeral Home is serving the Skeeter family.
Dorothea M. Willoughby
AHOSKIE – Dorothea Marie Melenson Willoughby, 75, of the 900 block of North Mitchell Street, died Tuesday, November 6, 2007, in her home.
Mrs. Willoughby was born in Kansas City, Missouri. She was an active member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Ahoskie and a member of the Ahoskie Women’s Club. She was a former government employee and a homemaker.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, William T. Willoughby; a daughter, Victoria Younkin and husband, David of Winchendon, Massachusetts; a son, Perry “Rick” Henley of Knoxville, Tennessee; two brothers, Ralph Melenson of Hot Springs, Arkansas and Henry Melenson of Kansas City, Missouri; and grandsons, Thomas Younkin, Duane Younkin and Daniel Younkin.
A celebration of life mass will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 10, 2007 at St. Charles Catholic Church, Ahoskie, with the Rev. Thomas J. McGee, O.S.F.S. officiating. Burial will follow in the Ahoskie Cemetery. Friends joined the family at Garrett Funeral Home, 205 NC Highway 42, West, Ahoskie, from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. today and other times at the home.
Lawrence Dickens
CONWAY – Lawrence “Pig” Dickens of Conway died Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.
Survivors include his wife, Maretha Faison Dickens of Conway; four sons, Cedric Dickens of Rich Square, Lizima Dickens and Gary Dickens, both of Conway, and Ivan Dickens of Barbousville, West Virginia; one daughter, Maretha Channel Dickens of Conway; one brother, James Dickens of Jersey City, NJ; 13 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 11 at Second Baptist Missionary Creeksville Church, Conway, with the Rev. Luther Morris Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Reynolds Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Hilda Rae Boyce
WOODLAND – Hilda Rae Boyce, 56, of Woodland died November 7, 2007 at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids.
A native of Northampton County, Boyce was a domestic worker.
She was a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board, Finance Committee and Kitchen Committee.
Survivors include her brothers, Unray Boyce of Rich Square, John H. Boyce Jr. of Woodland and
Melvin Bush of Watha; and sisters, Jean Boyce, Juanita Boyce,
Mary B. Boone and Barbara Boyce,
all of Woodland,
and Connie Faison of Ahoskie.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 12 at Jerusalem Baptist Church, Woodland, with the Rev. Eddie Vinson officiating. Burial will follow in the Jerusalem Baptist Church Cemetery.
Wilder’s Funeral Home of Aulander is in charge of the arrangements.
Suzette Lewis
COFIELD – Suzette Lewis of Cofield died Thursday, November 8, 2007 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.

Joan P. Coppage
PATERSON, NJ – Joan Pugh Coppage, 52, a native of Northampton County, and formerly of Rich Square, died November 2, 2007 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Paterson.
Mrs. Coppage was a member of Branches Chapel Baptist Church, Rich Square.
Survivors include her husband, James Coppage of Paterson; her mother, Burnettie M. Pugh of Rich Square; sisters, Barbara Taylor of Rich Square and Maxine Hardy of New York, NY, Barbara Hardy of Asheboro, Lesely Hardy of High Point and Teresa Hardy of Portsmouth; and her brothers, Rev. Donald Robinson of Hackensack, Steve Robinson of Paterson and Wilbert Hardy of New Jersey.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Branches Chapel Baptist Church, Rich Square, by the Rev. Tony Flood Sr. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.
Minnie Jenkins
LITTLETON – Minnie L. Jenkins, 82, died November 8, 2007 at Halifax Regional Medical Center, Roanoke Rapids.
