Lee tabbed Teacher of the Year

AHOSKIE – The 2007-2008 District Teacher of the Year has been named for Bertie County Public Schools.
Clara Lee, a teacher from Colerain Elementary School, was granted the position of honor.
The award ceremony took place at Catherine’s Restaurant in Ahoskie on October 17.
Also nominated for the award was each individual school’s Teacher of the Year.
Those accomplished teachers included Jacqueline Powell from Aulander Elementary School, LaTonja Joyner-Hyman from Bertie High School, Michelle Johnson from West Bertie Elementary School, and Muriel Hoggard from Windsor Elementary School.
Another teacher who was nominated but who was not present at the ceremony was Jolyquin Sessoms-Taylor from Bertie Academy.
The featured guest speaker for the event was Dr. Sandra Sheridan.
Board members Rickey Freeman, Emma Johnson and Gloria Lee attended the ceremony along with Superintendent Dr. Chip Zullinger, Assistant Superintendent Thomas Ruffin, Curriculum Specialist Wayne Mayo and the 2006-2007 Teacher of the Year, Fannie Pugh.
A selection committee made up of various school officials carefully considered each nominee.
