WINTON – The investigation continues.
On Wednesday morning, Hertford County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Michael G. Basham said the district continues to investigate an incident that occurred Friday night during the Bertie-Hertford County football game.
During halftime of the contest, the bands from the two schools were involved in a melee on the field that resulted in three students being transported to Roanoke-Chowan Hospital.
After the incident, the Ahoskie Police Department charged HCHS Band Director Frank Williams with inciting a riot.
On Wednesday, Dr. Basham said the district was reviewing video tape, interviewing people involved and working toward a solution.
The superintendent said both Bertie County Schools and Hertford County Public Schools were working together on the investigation. He hopes the investigation will be completed by early next week.
