William D. Harrell

COLERAIN – William David Harrell, 69, died Saturday, August 4, 2007 in his home.

Harrell was a native of Norfolk, Va.

He was a member of Powellsville Baptist Church and was the owner and operator of R.D. Harrell and Son General Merchandise Store.

Harrell also was a member of the Trap Volunteer Fire Department and served in the North Carolina National Guard.

Survivors include his wife, Danise Taylor Harrell; one daughter, Joan Bundy of Gatesville; two sons, Stacy Harrell of Windsor and Mike Harrell of Colerain; one sister, Rose Marie Asbell of Powellsville; and four grandchildren.

A Celebration Service of Mr. Harrell’s life was held 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at Mars Hill Baptist Church at Trap.

The Rev. Billy Presley officiated.

Burial followed at Highland Memorial Gardens.

The family received friends at the residence.

Memorial donations may be made to the Trap Volunteer Fire Department, Meadow Road, Colerain, N.C. 27924.

Mary Outlaw

COLERAIN – Mary Outlaw died on Monday, August 6, 2007 at Roanoke Chowan Hospital.

She was born to the late William and Solanie Wilson Freeman.

Outlaw was a member of Greater Wynns Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Lizzie Llyod of Cofield; one son, Larry Outlaw of Colerain; one sister, Bettie Reaves of Bronx, N.Y.; one brother, Bennie Bond of Colerain; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted Saturday, August 11, 2007 at 1 p.m. at Greater Wynns Grove Baptist Church, Colerain.

Bishop Thomas Lee will be officiating.

Burial will be held in the Church Cemetery.

Hunter’s Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie is handling the services.

Otis Mitchell

WINDSOR – Otis Mitchell, Jr., 57, of Manhattan New York died Sunday, August 5, 2007.

A funeral will be conducted on Saturday, August 11, 2007 at 1 p.m. at Gilliam Funeral Home Chapel, Windsor.

The visitation will be held Friday, August 10, 2007 at 7-8 p.m. at the Gilliam Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery in Windsor.

Kathleen S. Hinton

HOBBSVILLE – Kathleen Spivey Hinton, 84, died Aug. 6, 2007, in Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie. A homemaker, she was born in Gates County.

Hinton was a member of Zion United Methodist Church where she had formerly been a member of the adult choir and for many years worked with the children’s choir.

Survivors include three daughters, Judy Felton of Eure, Renee McGinnis and Sherri Russell of Sunbury; a son, Phil Hinton of Sunbury; two sisters, Eloise Lilley of Gatesville and Jean Hunter Spivey of Berryville, Va.; two brothers, Sidney Spivey of Gatesville and Bobby Spivey of Sunbury; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in Zion United Methodist Church by the Revs. Tracy Clayton and Walter Johnston.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Friends may join the family Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main St., Gatesville, and all other times at the home of Jim and Sherri Russell, 610 Acorn Hill Road, Sunbury.

Melvin Belangia

MURFREESBORO – Melvin Belangia, 75, died Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at Guardian Care in Scotland Neck.

A native of Tyrrell County, he was retired from the casket factory in Woodland and attended the Full Gospel Holiness Church.

His favorite activity was to go fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Clarine Belangia; two sons, James Melvin Belangia and John Wesley Belangia; three daughters, Teresa, Virginia and Betty Jo; one sister, Nellie Sexton; and several grand and great-grand children.

Graveside services will be held Friday, 11 a.m. at Edgewood Cemetery Windsor.

The family will be receiving friends at Bridgers Funeral home, Inc. in Conway from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Thursday.

Curtis Jenkins Jr.

AHOSKIE – Curtis Jenkins, Jr. died Sunday, August 5, 2007 at Roanoke Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie,

Survivors include parents, Curtis Jenkins Sr. and Carolyn Lee; two brothers, Lamarcius and Demetrius Jenkins all of Ahoskie; grandparents, Alphonso and Rachel Jenkins both of Ahoskie; paternal grandfather; Paul Vann of Ahoskie; maternal great grandmother, Francis Holloman of Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at Hertford County High School, Ahoskie on Saturday, August 11, 2007 at 3 p.m.

The Rev. Jarvis Parker will be officiating.

Burial will be at Claudia Ambrose Memorial Gardens, Aulander.

COFIELD – Alice Diane Simmons died August 7, 2007 in her residence.

ROANOKE RAPIDS – Susie Whitaker, 83, died Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at Virginia Commonwealth University Health System, Richmond Virginia.

SCOTLAND NECK – Steve Allen Waters, 51, died Aug. 6, 2007.
