AULANDER – After nearly two years of waiting, the dream of several Aulander officials has finally come to fruition.

In November 2005, the USDA Rural Development issued a check for $250,000 for the renovation of two adjacent buildings on Main Street.

The facilities were to be turned into the Aulander Opportunity Building, which now houses three new startup businesses.

A grand opening for the businesses was held here Wednesday morning.

Albemarle Athletics and Arts is housed in one building, while Afterthoughts, along with Yesteryear Antiques and Crafts, occupy the other.

&uot;This is a very happy occasion for the Town of Aulander… it took the hard work and dedication of many,&uot; stated Aulander Town Commissioner Jeanette Tinkham.

Rob Morris is the owner of Albermarle Athletics, a facility which will specialize in martial arts training.

Afterthoughts’ primary focus is as a second hand shop for infants and children’s clothes, though they also have many other items. It is owned by Jennifer and Randy Madon.

Cathy and Ronnie Poppell manage Yesteryear Antiques.

The three businesses are located at 109 and 111 East Main Street and are now currently open for business.
