Johnie W. Cale
AHOSKIE n Mrs. Johnie White Cale, 90, of the 200 block of Catherine Street, died Saturday, July 28, 2007, in Guardian Care of Ahoskie.
Mrs. Cale was born in Bertie County, a daughter of the late John and Hattie White, and was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, Perrytown.
She was a homemaker and the widow of James Darden Cale.
Left to cherish her memory is her son, Robert Cale and his wife, Lessie of Aulander; a daughter-in-law, Rebecca Cale of Ahoskie; a sister, Velva Lee of Raleigh; eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Cale was predeceased by a daughter, Hettie Cale Jordan and a son, James Dalton Cale.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 31, 2007, at Bethany Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Tripp officiating.
Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery.
The family received friends at Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. on Monday, and other times at the home of her son, Robert Cale, 206 Broad Street, Aulander, NC.
Garrett Funeral Home is serving the Cale family.
Charles E Smith
HAMPTON, VA – Charles Edward Smith, 81, a native of New York City, died July 24, 2007.
After Army service in Europe during World War II,
Smith returned to New York where he earned a BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering from New York Polytechnic Institute and a BS Degree in Chemical Engineering from Hunter College. He retired as Director of the Environmental Protection Agency of New York City after 38 years of service. A member of the American Chemical Society, he had also been active with the Brooklyn Old Timers Association until moving to Hampton recently.
Survivors include a son, Davin D. Smith Sr. of Hampton; and four grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at New Hope Baptist Church, Gates County, with interment in the church cemetery. R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home in charge.
Effie Taylor
CONWAY n Effie B. Taylor, 95, a native of Northampton County, died July 26, 2007 at Halifax Regional Hospital, Roanoke Rapids. She was the widow of John Taylor.
A funeral was conducted Sunday at Galatia Baptist Church by the Rev. David Foster. Burial was in the Davis family Cemetery. Bridgers Funeral Home, Inc., Conway, was in charge.
Mrs. Taylor was a homemaker. She was also a waitress at Ralph’s Barbeque Restaurant, Weldon. Mrs. Taylor was a member of Galatia Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, John D. Taylor of Hoffman; three daughters, Jeannette T. Thorne of Weldon, Corinne T. Holmes of Conway and Barbara J. Lassiter of Millennium; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Lucille Jordan
TYNER – Lucille Freeman Jordan, 84, a native of Newport News, Va., died July 25, 2007.
Mrs. Jordan was a member of Ballard’s Bridge Baptist Church, Chowan County.
Survivors include her husband, Early E. Jordan; a daughter, Earline Martin of McLean of Virginia; a brother, Jack Freeman of Hampton; one granddaughter; and three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was conducted Sunday in Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News by Rev. Ronald G. Parr. Peninsula Funeral Home, Newport News was in charge.
Mildred S. Bolton
RICH SQUARE – Mrs. Mildred S. Bolton, age 90, died at the Rich Square Health Care Center on Thursday, July 26, 2007.
She was a member of the Rich Square Baptist Church.
She along with her late husband Emmett made their home in Rich Square and born to them where two children.
She worked for many years as a bookkeeper for their auto sales business.
Preceding her in death are her mother and father, Mariana Cutts Satterwhite and Clyde Gray Satterwhite, one daughter, Betsy Bolton Daniels, three sisters, Margaret Peterson, Sue Binbowe and Bernice Cottrell and two brothers, Kernel Seymore Satterwhite and William Satterwhite.
Survivors include one son, Tom Bolton and his wife Sherrie of Rich Square; and one sister, Doris Redd of Norfolk, VA.
Also surviving are four grandchildren, Margaret Bolton, Kattie Caldwell, Karen Crowe and Andrew Daniels, as well as five great grandchildren, Annike Grace Caldwell, Warren Daniels, Kate Daniels, Thomas Truluck and Ashley Truluck.
Memorial services will be conducted on Sunday, August 5, 2007 at 2 P.M. at the Rich Square Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Rogers officiating.
The family will receive friends following the memorial service at the church.
