Neda J. Fagan

WILLIAMSTON n Mrs. Neda Johnson Fagan, 79, a native of Martin County, died Wednesday, July 25, 2007.

Mrs. Fagan was born September 9, 1927 and retired as a Certified Nursing Assistant with North Care. In 1946 she married J. Hosea Fagan who died August 1981. She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Remona Lipscomb Fagan.

A graveside service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 28, 2007 at Ware Chapel Methodist Cemetery in Darden. A visitation was held Friday, July 7, 2007 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Biggs Funeral Home and other times at Penny Fagan, 1397 Holly Drive, Williamston. Memorials may be made to Community Home Care & Hospice or Jamesville Fire and Rescue, Jamesville, NC 27846.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry Fagan and Joe Fagan, both of Jamesville; two daughters, Pam Hodges of Como and Penny Fagan of Williamston; one sister, Mary Lee Curtis of Williamston; two brothers, Jack Johnson of Memphis, TN, Bill Johnson of Florida and Eli Johnson of Newport; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

Ronnette U. Corbett

BRONX, NY n Ronnette U. Corbett, 39, a native of Brooklyn, died July 19, 2007 at Lincoln Memorial Health Center.

A memorial service was conducted Friday at 11 a.m. at Bazemore Temple Church of God in Christ, 350 Governors Road, Windsor, NC, by Elder Maurice Davenport Sr. Puckett-Purkett Funeral Service, Inc., was in charge.

Miss Corbett was a music director. She was a member of West Presbyterian Church, New York and Bazemore Temple Church of God in Christ, Windsor.

Survivors include two sons, Keidren and Kristen Corbett of Bronx; her parents, Ronald and Pauline B. Corbett of Windsor; one brother, Ronald Corbett Jr. of New York; paternal grandparent, Isabelle Corbett of New York; and maternal grandparent, Georgia B. Pugh of Windsor.

Clifton E. Britt

Mr. Clifton Edward “Smooth” Britt of the 2100 block of Hunters Ridge Drive departed this life on Tuesday evening, July 24, 2007 at Moses Cone Hospital, Greensboro, NC. Clifton was born on January 28, 1959 to the late William Kermit and Ella Marie Freeman Britt.

Clifton resided in Corapeake, NC and attended Gates County schools. A 1977 graduate of Gates County High School. His athletic ability in football earned him an athletic scholarship to North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. At NCA&TSU Clif’s, as he was affectionately called, athletic prowess continued where he became a force on the Offensive Inc. In his senior season, he was named a Sheridan/Kodak All-American.

After graduation from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, Clif began his search for a career. After working as a security guard at Planters Peanuts in Suffolk, Virginia, he was hired as a Guilford County Deputy Sheriff, Greensboro, NC and sworn into law enforcement in 1985. Clif worked tirelessly at the Sheriff department for a total of twenty-two years.

On September 28, 1991, Clif and the former Miss June Taylor were joined in holy matrimony. To this union two children, Leslie Rene and Brian Clifton were born. Clif was a devoted husband, father and friend. To this family, he is a legend in their own time and will not be forgotten for the many life lessons he taught them.

Clifton leaves to cherish his memory, a loving wife, June Taylor Britt; two children, Leslie and Brian Britt, all of the home; four siblings, Jessie Britt, Sr. (Eddie G.), Sunbury, NC; Marion B. Byrd, Corapeake, NC; Kermit Britt (Ira P.); Linda Britt Hilaire (Gary), Miramar, FL; five nieces, Cheryl Deneen Britt, McLeansville, NC; Ruby Britt, Kansas City, Kansas; Kelee Britt, Greensboro, NC; Christina Byrd Davis (Robert), Newton-Conover, NC; Shannon Hilaire, Miramar, FL; five nephews, Jessie Britt, Jr. (Diane), Greensboro, NC, Ashley Britt (Jacqueline), Summerfield, NC, Kermit Britt, Frederick, Maryland, Andr\u00E9 Byrd (Jasmin), Salisbury, NC and Justin Hilaire, Miramar, FL; and a host of great nieces and great nephews, cousins, co-workers, former teammates, relatives and friends.

A funeral service was conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. James Baptist Church, 536 W. Florida Street, Greensboro with the Rev. Vernon C. King, Pastor and Rev. Jessie L. Britt, Jr., Eulogist. Burial was in the Freeman Family Cemetery, Hobbsville, NC on Sunday.

ROANOKE RAPIDS n Edward “June” Bennett Jr., 60, died July 24, 2007 at UNC Hospital, Chapel Hill.

A visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday in the Roanoke Rapids Chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Piney Grove Baptist Church, Halifax, by the Rev. John Rooks. Interment will be in Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Elijia Sloan

WINDSOR n Elijia Sloan, 88, died July 25, 2007 at Bertie Memorial Hospital, Windsor.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Pleasant Oak Missionary Baptist Church, Windsor. A visitation will be held Saturday at Gilliam Funeral Home Chapel from 7 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church.
