Timothy L. Gathers

HARRELLSVILLE – Timothy “Tim Gathers” LaDelle Gathers, 19, of 2221 NC Hwy. 45 S., died July 7, 2007 in Harrellsville.

Gathers was a native California and lived in Harrellsville. He was born May 10, 1988 and was a member of New Harrellsville Missionary Baptist Church and a student at Hertford County High School.

Survivors include his mother, Michelle Leary of Harrellsville, NC; his father, Stephen Cooley of

New York; stepfather, Clifton E. Leary of Colerain; a sister, Tiffany Leary of Harrellsville, NC; grandparents, Shadrick Gathers and

Margaret Gathers, both of Harrellsville, NC; his aunt; Wilhermia Y. Ashe of Ahoskie; uncles, Samuel E. Gathers of CA, and Donald A. Gathers of NY; and special aunt, Antrecia “Tracy” Marks of VA.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 12, 2007 at New Harrellsville Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Harrellsville, NC by the Rev. Michael Hardy. Burial will be in New Harrellsville Chapel Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Harrellsville. Wilder’s Funeral Home Inc., Aulander, NC, is in charge of arrangements.

Southgate L. Byrd

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA –

Southgate Lee Byrd ,89, a native of Roxobel and formerly of Murfreesboro, died July 7, 2007.

Byrd was a member of Meherrin Baptist Church, and had retired as a supervisor for Georgia Pacific in Conway.

Survivors include two sons; Gerald Byrd of Bassett, VA., and Donnie Byrd of Elizabeth City; one daughter, LouAnn Fulks of Virginia Beach; eight grandchildren; and eight great- grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Meherrin Baptist Church, 513 Meherrin Lane, Murfreesboro, by the Rev. Terry Jones and Rev. James Hester. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 1-2 p.m. prior to services and memorial donations may be made to Meherrin Baptist Church Window Fund, 513 Meherrin Lane, Murfreesboro, NC. 27855. Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, is in charge.

Eula Overman White

SUFFOLK, Va. – Eula Overman White, 101, a native of Hobbsville, died July 8, 2007, in her residence. She was the widow of Thurman Dewey White.

Mrs. White had retired from Leggett department store as a saleswoman and was a member of Warwick Baptist Church and the Women’s Adult Bible Class.

A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m Tuesday in Warwick Baptist Church with Dr. Charles Jones. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials can be made to the General Fund of Warwick Baptist Church, 4314 Virginia Road, Hobbsville, NC 27946.

Nettie S. Vaughan

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Nettie Sue Vaughan, 86, a native of Gates County, died

July 7, 2007.

Mrs. Vaughan was a charter member of Bethany Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, William Henry Vaughan; one daughter, Betty V. Raymond of Aquia, Va.; one sister, Kay Richards of Virginia Beach; one brother, Raymond Brown of Melbourne, Fla.; one granddaughter; and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. Gene V. Primm. Burial will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Bethany Baptist Church or to the SPCA.

Erica Grandberry

AHOSKIE n Erica Grandberry, 35, a native of Hertford County, died July 4, 2007 in Cofield.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Soul Saving Station. Burial will follow. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.

Survivors include her father, Robert Ward of Ahoskie; her mother, Roberta Campbell and stepfather, Wayne Campbell, both of Ahoskie; one son, Monterrio Grandberry of Ahoskie; five daughters, Akika Bishop, Makevia Jernigan, Mahognay Jernigan, Shontavia Grandberry and Ake’Jionna Grandberry, all of Ahoskie; one brother, Lamont Bishop of Ahoskie; and two sisters, Donna Banks and Kimberly Bishop, both of Ahoskie.

Bessie Manley

COMO n Bessie Manley, 88, a native of Hertford County, died July 6, 2007 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A funeral was conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Hertford County Undertakers, Winton.

She is survived by a sister, Joyce Scott of Ahoskie.
