AULANDER – A man has been arrested here following the theft of gas on three separate occasions from the Town of Aulander.
It was discovered at the beginning of July that there was extra gas being taken from the town pumps located on Rice Avenue at the town maintenance shop.
The public works coordinator for the town, Thurman Morris, apparently contacted the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office and Detective Sergeant Ed Pittman investigated.
&uot; After I received the call, I installed video surveillance equipment at the location of the pumps,&uot; Pittman stated.
Through that investigation, it was discovered three gallons of gas were taken early last Saturday morning (July 7).
On July 10, 35 additional gallons were taken and then another 15 in the early morning hours of July 11.
&uot; After looking at the video, we were able to identify him as Phillip Gerald White,&uot; Pittman said.
White, 31, of 407 Broad Street in Aulander, was arrested and charged with three misdemeanor counts of larceny of motor fuel.
He was put under a $1,000 bond and was released. His court date is set for August 16.
