Post 102 tops Pitt

WINTERVILLE – Ahoskie Post 102 banged out 13 hits and Heath Britt pitched seven strong innings as they beat Pitt County Post 160 7-4 in a senior American Legion game here Friday night.

Pitt County led 3-0 after five innings, then Ahoskie scored three runs in the top of the sixth to tie the score at 3-3.

Josh Morris hit a single and was thrown out at third on a Jacob Harrell single.

Dustin Briggs singled, then Harrell and Briggs scored on a double by Britt.

Michael Burton walked, and Britt scored on a Zeek Williams double.

Pitt County scored one run in the bottom of the sixth to bring them back ahead at 4-3.

Ahoskie scored four runs in the top of the seventh to cinch the win.

Bryce Cullipher walked and later scored on a triple by Morris, then Morris scored on a Harrell double.

Briggs singled, then he and Harrell both scored on a single from Burton to finalize the score at 7-4.

Britt pitched seven innings for the win, allowing four runs on seven hits.

He struck out four during the game.

Morris pitched the last two innings for the save, allowing no runs and no hits.

He had five strikeouts.

The Ahoskie team totaled 13 hits during the game, with three each from Morris and Williams, two each from Harrell, Briggs, and Burton, and one from Britt.

Head coach Randy Whitaker stated after the game, &uot;My hat is off to the team. We came out ready to play.&uot;

He continued, &uot;We got a great pitching performance from Heath and then Josh came in and shut them down in the last two innings. We hit the ball well and played good defense.&uot;

Ahoskie stands at 4-15 for the overall season and 3-6 in conference play.

They will finish the season at Snow Hill tomorrow (Wednesday) at 7 p.m.
