Post 102 suffers defeat

AHOSKIE – Post 40 scored eight runs in the first inning and went on to a 17-5 win here Tuesday.

The victory for Edenton’s team came in a Senior American Legion game at Ahoskie Post 102.

Post 40 opened the scoring with eight runs in the top of the first inning.

Ahoskie countered with two of their own in the same frame.

Dustin Briggs led off with a solo homer to left. After his score, Heath Britt doubled to right-center field and went to third on a steal.

Britt scored on a Jacob Harrell RBI-groundout, trimming the Post 102 deficit to 8-2.

Edenton added four more runs in the top of the second to grab a 12-2 advantage.

Ahoskie managed a run in the bottom of the same stanza.

Ryan Staton singled on the infield and moved to second on a Briggs single to left. Both advanced on a wild pitch.

Staton was plated on a Michael Burton RBI-single to center that got Post 102 within 12-3.

Edenton scored their final five runs in the top of the third, grabbing a 17-3 advantage.

Ahoskie scored one in the bottom of the third when Josh Morris delivered a solo shot to left.

Brent Bowen and Chris Mizelle both had singles, but a flyout ended the inning with Ahoskie still trailing 17-4.

Post 102 added their final run in the bottom of the fifth.

Aaron Hoggard and Morris drew back-to-back walks. Hoggard then came around to score on a Bowen single to left, establishing the final score.

Briggs started the game and pitched two innings, suffering the loss. Mizelle pitched three innings and Zeek Williams tossed the final two frames.

Post 102 totaled 13 hits with Morris, Hoggard, Briggs, Burton and Bowen recording two each. Britt, Mizelle and Staton each had one hit.

Ahoskie dropped to 3-14 overall and 3-6 in conference play.
