Josie M. Britt

MURFREESBORO n Josie Mae Britt, 85, a native of Woodland, died June 10, 2007 at Rex Hospital.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Parker’s Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Mapleton, by the Rev. Fernando E. Temple Sr. Burial will be in Carver’s Park Cemetery. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.

Survivors include three daughters, Brenda McEachern of Greensboro, Linda Gail of Wake Forest and Jewel Rascoe of Ashburn, Va.; two sons, Sidney M. Britt of Gaston and Calvin Britt of Sterling; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

David L. Hamiel

ROANOKE RAPIDS n David L. Hamiel, 73, died June 13, 2007 at Wake Medical Center, Raleigh.

A visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday in the Roanoke Rapids Chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday at Piney Grove Baptist Church in Halifax by the Rev. C.E. McCullom. Interment will be in Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Ella Sexton

HENRICO –

Ella Louise Huff Sexton, 57, a native of Northampton County, died June 13, 2007 at University of North Carolina Hospital, Chapel Hill.

Mrs. Sexton was last employed at Easco Aluminum Company in Winton.

Survivors include her sons, Oshawn Sexton of Rich Square and Ernest Sexton Sr. of Virginia Beach, VA; a daughter, Gesila McNeal of Ohio; her brothers,

Joe Huff and Cornelius Huff, both of Henrico, James Huff and Alvin Huff, both of Richmond, VA,

Harding Huff Jr. of Arizona, and Clyde Huff; sisters, Carolyn Huff and Lorraine Davis, both of Henrico; and five grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Huff family cemetery

– Henrico. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.

Roderick W. Clarke

GATESVILLE -Roderick Wayne &uot;Pops&uot; Clarke, 73, a native of Hyde County, died June 12, 2007, in Down East Health & Rehab, Gatesville.

Clarke served in the United States Coast Guard for 24 years, he saw duty in the Vietnam War, and following retirement from the military, he worked in the security business, both as a guard and an armored truck driver. A life member of the Gates County Memorial Post No. 7312 of the VFW, he was a former member of the Suffolk Moose Lodge. Survivors include his wife, Ida Mullins Clarke; three sons, Arnold Thomas Clarke and Samuel Clarke, both of California and Robert Clarke of New Hampshire; his stepmother, Jean West Clark of Corapeake; a half sister, Donna Crawford of Portsmouth; two half brothers, Samuel C. Clark and David A. Clark, both of Corapeake; and two grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday in the mausoleum chapel of Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Airline Boulevard, Chesapeake. Military honors will be accorded. Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville is in charge. The family will assemble in the cemetery at 2:45 p.m. Saturday in preparation of services.

Eugenia Houk

WINTON n Eugenia Fostanes Houk, 64, a native of the Philippines, died June 12, 2007 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Massey Funeral Home, Aulander, by the Rev. Raleigh Johnson. Burial will be in Stoney Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Aulander Saturday from 7 until 8:30 p.m.

Survivors include her sons, John Houk of Roanoke, Va., and James Houk of Myerstown, Pa.; her sisters, Anna F. Gardner of Snow Hill, Esia Fostanes, Salome Fostanes and Wincesla Fostanes, all of Hawaii; and four brothers, Cy Fostanes, Dhal Fostanes, Fil Fostanes and Benny Fostanes.

John E. Reid Sr.

AHOSKIE n John Edward Reid Sr., 85, a native of Alexandria, Va., died June 14, 2007, in Roanoke- Chowan Hospital.

Reid was a member of Ahoskie United Methodist Church.

He was a Navy veteran and was retired as a customer service agent, having served 32 years with United Airlines.

Survivors include his wife, Florence Robertson Reid; and a son, John Edward Reid, Jr. of Harrellsville.

A graveside memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday at Highland Memorial Gardens by the Rev. John Dutton.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Ahoskie Rescue Squad or to a favorite charity. Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, is in charge.

Thelma W. Lewis

COLERAIN n Thelma Wynn Lewis, died June 12, 2007 at Guardian Care Nursing Home, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 12 noon Tuesday at Reynolds Funeral Home Chapel, Ahoskie. Burial will be in the church cemetery, Colerain.

Survivors include one brother, Lemuel Wynn of Colerain; and three sisters, Mary Speight of Harrellsville, and Janie Walker and Barbara Jean Watson, both of Brooklyn, NY.

Verlie J. Moore

MITCHELLVILLE, MD n Verlie Jeanette Moore, a native of Harrellsville, died June 15, 2007 at Doctor’s Community Hospital, Lanham.

Fannie Futrell

COMO – Fannie Futrell, 52,

died June 9, 2007 at Albemarle Hospital, Elizabeth City.

She was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sisters, Marion Peele of Como and Mable Jane Futrell of Murfreesboro.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Hunter’s Funeral Home Chapel, Murfreesboro. Viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday.

Emmanuel Boone

ROANOKE RAPIDS n Emmanuel Boone, 57, died June 15, 2007 at Halifax Regional Medical Center, Roanoke Rapids.

Mrs. Beulah Baker White

AULANDER n Mrs. Beulah Baker White, age 90, of Frances Mill Road, Aulander, died Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at her home.

Mrs. White was born Nov. 28, 1916 in Bertie County, NC, the daughter of the late Roy N. Baker and Mary Lucy Shoular Baker. She was also preceded in death by her husband, A. Woodrow White, her brothers, Edward and Frank Baker and a sister, Clara Showalter.

Mrs. White retired from Ahoskie Manufacturing. She was a member of the Home Demonstration Club and a member of Ebenezer Assembly of God where she taught Sunday School. Mrs. White was a mother to everyone and was a mentor and a tutor to many young people throughout her life. She was also a gifted artist.

Survivors include her daughters, Shirley Harden and her husband, Wayne of Windsor, NC, Virgie Bordeaux and her husband, Ronald of Roper, NC, Lillian Wolfe and her husband, Charles, Rebecca Himelright and her husband, Kenneth, Linda Megill, Ethel Weese and her friend, Bobby Mizelle, all of Aulander, NC and Judy Briggs of Fredericksburg, VA; her son, Richard White and his wife, Patricia of Aulander, NC; her former son-in-law, Mike Anderson of Montress, VA; her sisters, Alice Baker, Dorothy Baker, Frances McCarthy, Lake Baker, Helen Robbins, Winiford Williford, and Faye Fulton; her brothers, Robert Earl Baker, Sam Baker, and Jerry Baker; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 16, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Ebenezer Assembly of God Church with Rev. Steven Evans officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens.

The family received friends at Massey Funeral Home in Aulander, from 7 until 8:30 p.m.
