Morris tosses perfect game

AHOSKIE – Ridgecroft left-hander Josh Morris pitched a perfect game as the Rams defeated Northeast Academy 11-0 Saturday morning.

The win came in the first round of the Ridgecroft Baseball Classic.

Morris pitched five innings for the win, striking out 12 of the 15 batters he faced. The other three flied out.

The Rams opened the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the first frame.

Patrick Dilday walked before Morris was hit by a pitch and Neil Howard walked to load the bases.

Dilday scored on an error, Morris scored on a Dustin Baker RBI-groundout and Howard scored on a Josh Lane RBI-single to make it 3-0.

The Rams added two runs in the bottom of the second.

Bryan Britton walked and Dilday singled. Britton scored on an error on the play. Dilday scored on Howard’s RBI-triple to make it 5-0.

Ridgecroft scored their final six runs in the bottom of the third inning.

Lane singled, Brian Outlaw walked and Thad Perry singled to load the bases.

Lane then scored on a Britton bases-loaded walk and Outlaw scored when Dilday was hit by a pitch. Perry and Britton scored on a Morris two-run single. Dilday scored on an error.

Howard and Lane walked to reload the bases and then Morris scored on a bases-loaded walk to secure the 11-0 lead.

Brodie Harrell tossed two and two-thirds innings for Northeast and suffered the loss. John Pope pitched the final one and one-third innings.

Ridgecroft had six hits. Lane had two hits. Morris, Dilday, Howard and Perry had one hit each.
