Bears top Ridgecroft

AHOSKIE – Grayson Toms and Jacob Dunlow combined to pitch a five-hit shutout as Hertford County beat Ridgecroft 10-0 in game two of the Ridgecroft Baseball Classic.
The Bears opened the scoring with four runs in the bottom of the first frame.
Ryan Matthews walked and Edward Joyner singled to center. Matthews then scored on a Heath Britt RBI-double to right-centerfield.
Joyner and Britt scored on an Andre Lyles two-run single to center. Courtesy runner Travis Ellis scored on a Latrael Ashe RBI-single to center to give HCHS a 4-0 lead.
Hertford County added one run in the bottom of the second when Jamal Lewis singled to right and scored when Britt reached on an error to make it 5-0.
The Bears added another mark in the bottom of the third. Dunlow tripled to right. Ellis, again a courtesy runner, then scored on a wild pitch to make it 6-0 in favor of the Bears.
HCHS added the final four runs in the bottom of the fourth frame.
Matthews walked before Joyner singled and Britt walked to load the bases. Matthews scored when Lyles reached first on an error. Joyner scored on a Dunlow sacrifice fly and Britt scored on a Michael Burton RBI-single to center.
Lyles scored the final run of the game when he came home on an Ashe sacrifice fly.
Toms pitched three innings for the Bears while Dunlow tossed the other two.
Patrick Dilday went three innings for Ridgecroft while Neil Howard pitched one.
The Bears had eight hits led by Joyner with two. Britt, Lyles, Burton, Dunlow, Ashe and Lewis had one hit each.
The Rams had five hits. Bryan Britton, Dilday, Josh Morris, Josh Lane and Miles Harrell each had one hit.
