Virginia man faces statutory rape charges

AHOSKIE – A Virginia man is facing statutory rape charges in Ahoskie.
Sheriffe Abraham Adeyemo, 22 of Naval Base Road in Norfolk, Va., was charged with two felony counts of statutory rape and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
According to Ahoskie Police Chief Troy Fitzhugh, Adeyemo turned himself in and was placed under a $10,000 secured bond, which was posted.
Chief Fitzhugh said the incident was reported March 22 by the victim’s mother. APD Sgt. Larry Belangia took the initial report concerning a juvenile female having sex with a male over the age of 18.
On March 26, APD Detective Sgt. Jeremy Roberts went to the victim’s residence to further investigate the report. After speaking to the mother, Detective Sgt. Roberts spoke to the juvenile and later concluded his interviews with the suspect.
Upon compiling the information that he received from the investigation, Roberts obtained the warrants.
