Blannie Vick

GASTON n Blannie Vick, 96, died March 28, 2007 at Guardian Care, Roanoke Rapids.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete. H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids, is in charge.

James Fennell

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – James Fennell, 94, died March 24, 2007.

A funeral was conducted Friday in Hunter’s Funeral Home Chapel, Ahoskie.

Ronnie Brooks

MURFREESBORO – Ronnie &uot;Doll&uot; Brooks, 51, died March 25, 2007.

A funeral will be

conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church. Hunter’s Funeral Home is in charge.

Andy R. Hendrix

EURE – Andy Robert Hendrix, 49, a native of Norfolk, Va., died March 28, 2007, in his home.

Andy was born in Norfolk and was the son of Robert and Dorothy Hobbs Hendrix of Hobbsville. A member of Sandy Cross Baptist Church, he was employed at CIBA Specialty Chemicals in Suffolk.

Surviving other than his parents is his wife, Diane Rountree Hendrix; his daughter, Amber Hendrix; his son, Ryan Hendrix; his parents, Robert and Dorothy Hobbs Hendrix; and his sister, Cindy Hendrix Knight of Suffolk.

A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday in Cool Spring Baptist Church by the Revs. Roger Kiker, Wayne Gardner and Gene Asbill. Burial will be in the church cemetery and will be officiated by the Rev. Billy Presley. Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main St., Gatesville, is assisting with arrangements. Friends may join the family at the residence.

Josephine L. Copeland

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Josephine L. &uot;Sis&uot; Copeland, a native of Murfreesboro, died March 26, 2007, in Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center. She was the widow of Richard Copeland.

Mrs. Copeland retired after 20 years of service from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. She was a member of Third Baptist Church Portsmouth, where she was a former member of the choir, member of the Loyal Workers, Sunday School Class No. 12, Jolly Workers and Widows Club. She was also a member of Brighton Chapter No. 118, Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include her sister, Iristine Lassiter of Portsmouth; foster brother, Milton Holland; and a godchild, Carolyn Williams.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Third Baptist Church, Portsmouth, by the Rev. Joe B. Fleming. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, Portsmouth. Corprew Funeral Home, Portsmouth, is in charge. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Narcissus Robertson

Narcissus Robertson, died on January 5, 2007.

It was a misprint in the papers and the program that my mother only raised one granddaughter. I’m correcting that misprint. She raised six grandchildren and then raised great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and great-great-great-grandchildren and so on.

Blanche L. Vann

Blanche L. Vann departed this life on March 26, 2007. She was born to Amelia B. Vann and James L. Vann in Hertford County, North Carolina. She attended and graduated from C.S. Brown High School. She attended Fayetteville State Teachers College and later transferred to Winston-Salem College graduating with a degree in elementary education. She taught in Hertford County Public Schools for thirty-two years retiring in 1987. She became a member of Philippi Baptist Church at an early age. She sang in the senior choir and served as treasurer for a term.

Blanche was predeceased by her parents, brothers, James Dennis Vann, Smith Allen Vann (Lula), Calvin Samuel Vann (Inell), Sidney Lawrence Vann (Carrie) and sister Amelia Josephine Riddick.

She leaves to cherish her memories, sister, Mattie Russell of Norfolk, Va. (matriarch and personal nurse of the family) Evangeline Davis (Louis) of Upper Marlboro, MD. Also left to cherish her memories are nieces that she helped to rear, Norma Trotman (Marvin) of Norfolk, Va. and Roslyn Cunningham (Cary) of Hampton, VA.

She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Other special friends in Blanche’s life are nephew George (Bob) Earley, Lloyd and Shirley Bowser and her beloved dog, Jeraud. Blanche will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

Demittarus Burden

AULANDER n Demittarus Pernell Burden, 28, a native of Bertie County, died March 28, 2007 at Bertie Memorial Hospital, Windsor.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Mill Branch Baptist Church, Aulander, by the Rev. Ronald Dolberry. Burial will be in the Wilders-Cherry Family Cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.

Burden was employed with Perdue Inc., Lewiston.

Survivors include his mother, Mattie Burden Smith of Aulander; daughter, Mecca Burden and Oasia Burden, both of Aulander; sons, Omar Burden and Demittarus P. Burden Jr., both of Aulander; brothers, Clarence Burden, Terrence Burden and Garry Smith, all of Aulander and Aundra Burden of Kelford; sisters, Hope B. Jones and Stephanie Burden, both of Aulander; and his grandmother, Ola Mae Smith of Windsor.

Gilbert Ballance

AULANDER n Gilbert Lee Ballance, 61, a native of Hertford County, died March 29, 2007 at Guardian Care of Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Aulander Baptist Church by the Rev. Ronald Taylor. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.

Ballace was a trustee at Aulander First Baptist. He was last employed as a farm worker with Linwood Conner and a groundkeeper with Aulander First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his son, Corey Ballance Sr. of Aulander and Michael Ballance of Abescon, NJ; a daughter, Daphne B. Scott of Aulander; brothers, Jessie Overton of Cofield, Vernon Ballance Jr. of Florida, George A Ballance and Nick Ballance, both of Norfolk, Va.; sisters, Anna Bazemore of Abescon, Flossie Woolard of Norfolk and Myrtle Ann Ballance of Norfolk; and six grandchildren.

Ellen Landerson

ENFIELD n Ellen Landerson, 97, of Bertie County, died March 29, 2007 at Woodhaven Rest Home.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Gilliam Funeral Home Chapel, 706 Ghent St, Windsor, NC. A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Gilliam Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Windsor.
