Fred R. Futrell

MURFREESBORO – Fred Robert Futrell, 84, died March 22, 2007.

A graveside service was held March 24, 2007, in Severn Cemetery. Massey Funeral Home, Jackson, was in charge.

Rachel M. Knight

MATTHEWS – Rachel Minton Knight, 75, a native of Aulander, died March 21, 2007, at Presbyterian Hospital.

Mrs. Knight was a member of Mount Harmony Baptist Church, the Willing Workers Class and a volunteer at Presbyterian Hospital-Matthews.

Survivors include her husband, Douglas T. Knight; daughter, Debra Knight Rooney of Columbus, Ohio; son, Gary E. Knight of Weddington; sisters, Grace M. Trofe of Norfolk and Cheryl M. Weaver of Virginia Beach; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Harmony Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service. Inurnment will be in Forest Lawn East Cemetery. Those who wish may make memorials to Mount Harmony Baptist Church Building Fund, 2817 Mount Harmony Road, Matthews, NC 28105 or to the American Lung Association, 3801 Lake Boone Trail, Suite 190, Raleigh, NC 27607. Carthine S. Williams

AULANDER n Mrs. Carthine Shaw Williams, age 83, of Aulander, NC, died Saturday, March 24, 2007 at Bertie Memorial Hospital in Windsor, NC.

Mrs. Williams was born May 3, 1923 in Hopewell, Va., the daughter of the late Lewis Shaw and Linda Harrison Shaw. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Edward Williams. She was a member of Connaritsa Baptist Church and retired from Planters Peanut Co. in Aulander, NC.

Survivors include her children, Priscilla Grant and her husband, Scott of High Springs, Florida, Kay Kerley and her husband, Phil of Bethel, NC, Joel Williams and his wife, Phyllis of Holly Springs, NC, and Becky Farmer and her husband, Willie of Ahoskie, NC; her sisters, Dorothy Seawell, Lucille Roberson and Ruth Roberson; her grandchildren, Mark Grant, Charles Grant, Kim Murphy, Melody Odom, Brad Williams, Michael Williams, Louis Farmer and Jenny Farmer; and eight great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Monday, March 26, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Edgewood Cemetery in Windsor, NC, with Rev. Steve Evans officiating.

The family received friends at the home, 202 Pearl Street, Aulander, NC.

Arrangements were handled by Massey Funeral Home in Aulander, NC.

Elizabeth Bunch

HOBBSVILLE n Elizabeth Lane Bunch, 79, a native of Perquimans County, died March 23, 2007 in Albemarle Hospital. She was the widow of Ivan Vernon Bunch.

A funeral was conducted Monday at Warwick Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Charles Jones. Burial was in the Bunch family cemetery. Miller Funeral Home was in charge. Memorial contributions may be made to Warwick Baptist Church, 4314 Virginia Road, Hobbsville, NC 27946.

Mrs. Bunch along with her husband, owned and operated Bunch’s Greenhouse and Nursery. She attended Warwick Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Annette Scarborough of Wilmington, DE, Janette Jackson of Appomattox, Va., and Phyllis Thompson of Atlanta, GA; a son, Don Bunch of Elizabeth City; a brother, Lloyd Lane of Hertford; and three grandchildren.

Norvell E. Vaughan

WOODLAND n Norvell E. Vaughan, 72, a native of Northampton County, died March 30, 2007 at his residence.

A funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday at Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Eddie Vinson. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A viewing will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hertford County Undertakers Chapel, Winton.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Porter-Vaughan of Woodland; a daughter, Patricia V. Spence of Petersburg, Va.; a brother, Wayne Vaughan and Nathaniel Vaughan, both of Poughkeepsie, NY; an adopted brother, Cecil Powell of Woodland; sisters, Willia Scott of Rich Square, Evelyn Johnson of Woodland, Dr. Geraldine Mitchell of Washington, D.C., and Joyce Anderson of Virginia Beach; and one grandchild.

Bryant Williams

LEWISTON n Bryant Williams, 85, died March 21, 2007 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Gilliam Funeral Home Chapel, 706 Ghent St., Windsor. A visitation will be held from 11-1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral Home. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Windsor.

Larry D. Lewter

AHOSKIE n Larry Darnell Lewter, died March 24, 2007 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital.

WINTON n Blanche Vann, died March 26, 2007 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

Alice B. Futrell

MURFREESBORO n Alice Byrum Futrell, 88, a native of Chowan County, died March 25, 2007 at her home. She was the widow of Paul Jordan Futrell Sr.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Riverside Cemetery, Murfreesboro, by the Rev. David Ross and the Rev. David Foster. The family will receive friends at the home, 533 Perdue Hatchery Road, Murfreesboro, Tuesday from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to University Hospice, Ahoskie, NC 27910. Massey Funeral Home, Jackson, is in charge.

Mrs. Futrell was a member of Ashley’s Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include her children, Joyce F. Taylor of Seaboard, Paul J. Futrell Jr., and Katherine F. Skinner, both of Murfreesboro, William “Pete” Futrell of Como, Linda Futrell Flythe of Murfreesboro, Norma F. Harrell of Eure, Danny Futrell of Winterville and Cynthia F. Radabaugh of South Bend, Ind.; two sisters, Sarah Vann of Courtland, Va., and Cora Lee Parker of Murfreesboro; 15 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
