Callie A. Knight

WINDSOR – Callie Adams Knight, 92, of the 200 Block of Watson St. died March 15, 2007 at Bertie Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Knight was a native of Bertie County, a member of Colerain Baptist Church, the daughter of the late William Garfield and Sallie Baker Adams, and was a former Powers model and Orange Bowl Queen.

Including her parents, she was predeceased by a daughter; Joann White Jordan, four sisters; Mary Adams Freeman, Alice Adams Macaluso, Verna Adams Palmer, and Estelle Adams Stephenson, two brothers; John Quincy Adams and William Samuel Adams.

Surviving are two granddaughters; Velvet Jordan, San Martin. CA. Juli Jordan, Hibbing, MN., and one grandson; Charles “Chuck” Jordan, Riggins, ID., and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside Services were held 2:00 P.M. Monday March 19, 2007 at Hillcrest Cemetery, Colerain, N. C. with the Rev. Robert M. May officiating.

Garrett Funeral Home Ahoskie, N. C. was in charge of arrangements.

Donnell Harrell

COLERAIN n Donnell Harrell, 43, a native of Bertie County, died March 16, 2007 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at New Life Ministries, Ahoskie, by Pastor Denise Hardy. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.

Survivors include his parents, Charles W. Harrell Sr. and Sadie Lucille Harrell, both of Colerain; brothers, Jeffery Johnkins of Chesapeake, Va., and Charles William Harrell Jr. of Greenville; and his sisters, Carolyn Harrell of Gainesville, Va., Clara Lee of Ahoskie, Sharon Vertner of Jessup, MD, Patricia Harrell of Colerain and Lenora Harrell of Powellsville.

Calvin L. Harris

WOODLAND n Calvin Lamont Harris, 32, a native of Hertford County, died March 15, 2007 at Roanoke Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 12 noon Friday at Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Aulander, by the Rev. Linwood Joyner. Burial will be in the Cladie Ambrose Memorial Gardens, Aulander. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., is in charge.

Harris was a sanitation worker at Smithfield Packing Company, Smithfield, Va.

Survivors include his parents, Calvin Edwards and Dorothy Harris Joyner; his children, Jamillya Futrell of Rich Square and Calvin Lamont Harris Jr. of Florida; a sister, Temekia Joyner of Woodland; and his grandparents, Jessie “Dick” Harris of Virginia Beach and Ruth Anna Whitfield of New York.

Alice B Burden

AHOSKIE n Alice Bonner Burden, 62, a native of Bertie County, died March 16, 2007 at Albemarle Hospital, Elizabeth City.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Conoconary Baptist Church, Aulander, by Bishop James Harris. Burial will be in the Burden family cemetery, Aulander. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.

Burden was last employed as a Sales Manager with Red Apple Market.

Survivors include sons, Jerome Keith Burden of Ahoskie and Calvin Burden of Powellsville; daughters, Cynthia M. Burden, Keisha Burden and Charita Burden, all of Ahoskie, Regina Burden Harmon of Windsor, and

Jessica Burden Brooks of Richmond, Va.; a sister, Mildred Sessoms of Newport News; 24 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Andrew Johnson

CONWAY n Andrew “Pee Wee” Johnson, 81, a native of Milwaukee, died March 17, 2007 at Norfolk General Hospital, Norfolk, Va.

A memorial service was held Monday at Bethany United Methodist Church, Milwaukee, by the Rev. Sid Collins. Bridgers Funeral Home, Conway, was in charge.

Johnson was a veteran of World War II, served in Europe with the 376th Infantry and was awarded a Purple Heart in 1945 He was a gifted mechanic and worked for many years with Hedspeth & Company in Conway repairing farm equipment and later retired from Union Camp in Seaboard.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Johnson; three daughters, Terry Harrington of Clemmons, Vicki Johnson of Durham and Sandra Arn of Edenton; a brother, Charlie Lee Johnson of Milwaukee; a sister, Willie Grey Vinson of Franklin, Va.; and two grandchildren.

Alice Toney

GARYSBURG n Alice Toney, 65, died March 16, 2007 at Halifax Regional Medical Center, Roanoke Rapids.

Grace P. Bangley

SUFFOLK, Va. – Grace Cross Pearce Bangley, 72, a native of Suffolk, died March 18, 2007.

Mrs. Bangley retired in 2000 from the nursing administration department at Obici Hospital. She continued to work there in human resources until 2006. She was a member of Suffolk Christian Church and the West Memorial Class.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Louis Bangley Sr.; daughters, Grace Louise Werkheiser of Corapeake and Nancy Marie Bangley of Suffolk; sons, Robert Louis Bangley Jr. of Suffolk, John Thomas Bangley of Winterhaven, Fla., Bruce Edward Bangley of Suffolk; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Suffolk Christian Church by the Rev. Michael D. Halley. Burial will be in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. Lizzie F. Spivey

FRANKLIN, Va. – Lizzie Francis Spivey, 74, a native of North Carolina, died March 18, 2007, at Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk. She was the widow of Edward F. “Doc” Spivey.

Mrs. Spivey was retired from Leggett’s department store and a member of Franklin Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Cathy Mendola of Alpharetta, Ga.; her son, Ed Spivey of Courtland; two sisters, Helen F. Gillette of Capron and Lucille F. Vann of Conway; one brother, Nathan Francis Jr. of Conway; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Franklin Baptist Church by the Rev. Sharon James. Burial will be in Southampton Memorial Park. Raymond M. Morgan

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Raymond Mills Morgan, 88, a native of Seaboard, died March 16, 2007. He was the widower of Eugenia Bell “Jean” Morgan.

Morgan was the retired owner of R.M. Morgan Ltd., he was an accountant for more than 40 years and was a member of Woodland Heights Baptist Church. One of the founders of the original board of the Chesapeake General Hospital Authority, he served as chairman of finance and was the treasurer for 13 years.

Survivors include a daughter, Eugenia Morgan &uot;Jeannie&uot; Bankhead of Marietta, Ga.; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Sara Morgan Lockwood of Richmond.

A graveside service was conducted Monday in Riverside Memorial Park with the Dr. Donald S. Buckley officiating. Graham Funeral Home, Greenbrier Chapel, was in charge. Stephanie Ames Langley

MOYOCK – Stephanie Ames Langley, 52, a native of Portsmouth, died March 16, 2007, at Sentara Hampton General Hospital in Hampton, Va.

Survivors include her husband, Randy Earl Langley; her parents, Lawrence Lloyd Ames and Julie Serich Ames of Como; her daughter, Amy Ellen Langley of Moyock; and her sister, Cynthia Ames Cahoon of Moyock.

Mary White

Mrs. Mary Bolick White, 92, formerly of Barium Springs, N.C., passed away Sunday, March 18, 2007, at Guardian Care of Ahoskie, N.C.

Mrs. White was born April 22, 1914 in Mecklenburg County, N.C. and was the daughter of the late Fletcher and Minnie Wilhelm Bolick. She was a graduate of Huntersville High School and in 1936 was married to Isaac Burns White who died June 19, 1979.

Mr. and Mrs. White were associated with the Barium Springs Orphanage for many years and she served as Dietician for 30 years.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Anne White Hodges, one brother, Marvin Fletcher Bolick and one sister, Ellen B. Gibbie

Mrs. White is survived by one son, James B. White of Ahoskie, N.C., grandchildren, Debbie H. Overcash, Danny Hodges, Darren Hodges of Statesville, Charles L. White of Ahoskie, Sherri W. Green of Cumberland, VA, and Mitzi A. White of Murfreesboro, N.C., and seven great-grandchildren also survive.

Graveside funeral services will be conducted Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. at Little Joe’s Cemetery, Barium Springs, N.C. with Rev. Larry Ellis officiating. The family will visit with friends on Tuesday evening 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Nicholson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to any local chapter of Gideons International or to the Ahoskie United Methodist Church, Pastor’s discretionary fund, c/o P.O. Box 665, Ahoskie, N.C. 27910. Sally Wadsworth

KILL DEVIL HILLS n Sally Rawls Wadsworth, 74, a native of Aulander, died March 19, 2997 in Nags Head.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Twiford’s Colony Chapel, Manteo, by the Rev. Ken Simpson. Burial will be in Roanoke Island Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 7-8:30 p.m. and other times at the residence. Mrs. Wadsworth was a former owner/operator of the Fin ‘N Feather Hotel.

Survivors include her husband, Henry Bennie Wadsworth of the home; a son, H.B. “Benjie” Wadsworth of Wanchese; a sister, Virginia Rawls Minton of Ahoskie; and two brothers, Stanley Rawls of Pollocksville and Levis Rawls of Kill Devil Hills.

Melinda Moody

ENFIELD – Melinda Lee Moody, 59, died March 18, 2007 at her residence.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home chapel by the Rev. Shelton Daniel. Interment will be in the Moody family cemetery, Gaston.
