Aubrey E. Harrell
SUFFOLK, Va. – Aubrey Eugene Harrell, 88, a native of Gates County, died March 7, 2007. He was the widower of his first wife, Frances Bracy Harrell.
Harrell was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran having served during WWII. He retired as a tea processor from Thomas J. Lipton Company and a member of Reynoldson Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.
Survivors include his wife, Irene Hunter Brinkley Harrell of Suffolk, VA; daughter Rebecca Williams; a son, A. Frank Harrell, both of Gates; stepchildren, Judith B. Fischer, Susan B. Rawls, both of Suffolk, Loretta B. Stepka of Fairfax, Carroll H. and Joyce Brinkley, both of Suffolk; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; 12 stepgrandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; and a sister, Eva Barden of Manning, SC.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Reynoldson Baptist Church by theh Rev. Todd Higginson and Rev. Billy Presley. Burial will be private with military honors in the church cemetery. Contributions may be made to Reynoldson Baptist Church Building Fund at RR2, Gates, NC 27937. Johnettie Askew
BROOKLYN, N.Y. -Johnettie Askew, 75, died February 28, 2007.
A funeral will be held Saturday at noon in Zion Hill Baptist Church, Colerain. Hunter’s Funeral Home, Ahoskie, is in charge.
Roland C. Deberry
SEABOARD – Roland Clifton Deberry, 86, died March 7, 2007.
A funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in Galatia Baptist Church. Massey Funeral Home, Jackson, is in charge.
Robert R. Ziemba
EDENTON – Robert R. &uot;Bobby&uot; Ziemba, 63, died March 6, 2007, in Brian Center in Hertford.
Ziemba was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church where he was part of the Knights of Columbus. He served our country as a member of the United States Navy.
Survivors include his two brothers, Wayne Ziemba of Tyner and David Ziemba of Gates; A celebration of Mr. Ziemba’s life was held Thursday at St. Anne Catholic Church with Father Doug Reed. Burial followed in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Anne Catholic Church, 207 North Board St., Edenton, NC 27932. Evans Funerals and Cremations of Edenton was in charge.
Mary Agnes T. Askew
COLERAIN n Mary Agnes Taylor Askew, 88, of North Main Street, Colerain, died Thursday, March 08, 2007, in Sterling House in Greenville, NC.
Mrs. Askew was born in Hertford County, a daughter of the late Jessie and Mary Agnes Parker Taylor.
She was a member of Colerain Baptist Church and was the widow of David Lagray “Pos” Askew.
Mary Agnes loved her family and friends, enjoyed traveling and playing Bridge and Scrabble.
She also loved to do needlework and was very accomplished at it.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Leah A. Newsome and husband, Charles of Colerain, NC; two sons, Garland L. Askew and wife, Charlene, and Lynn M. Askew and wife, Dinah of Raleigh, NC; a sister, Jeanne Sawyer of Virginia Beach, VA; brothers, Gordon Taylor of McQueeney, TX, Jess Taylor of Spartanburg, SC; eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband, Mrs. Askew was preceded in death by a daughter, Norleen A. Daniels.
A celebration service of Mrs. Askew’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 11, 2007, at Colerain Baptist Church, with the Rev. Laura Early officiating.
Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Colerain Baptist Church Fellowship Hall immediately after the services on Sunday.

Rebie G. Britton
JACKSON n Rebie Grant Britton, 93, a native of Jackson, died March 8, 2007 at David Healthcare Center, Wilmington. She was the widow of Horace Alphonso Britton.
A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Jackson Baptist Church. Faily will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. on Sunday in the fellowship hall of the church. Burial will be in the family cemetery following the service at Galatia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Jackson Baptist Church. Massey Funeral Home is in charge.
Mrs. Britton attended Chowan College. She was an active member of Jackson Baptist Church, teaching Sunday school and serving as a deaconess.
Survivors include a son, Horace Grant Britton of Idabel, OK; daughters, Dianne Britton Barnes of Hampstead, NC, and Harriet Britton Whitaker of Woodstock, GA; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Gladys. Harrison
WINDSOR – Gladys Shirley Swinson Harrison, 80, a native of Onslow, died March 8, 2007, in Martin General Hospital, Williamston.
Mrs. Harrison was a homemaker.
Survivors include her daughters, Marie Parker of Suffolk, VA, Brenda Butler of Williamston, Jackie Toon of Windsor and Debbie White of Murphy; her sons, Danny Harrison of Jacksonville and Carroll Harrison of Bear Grass; sisters, Lucille Swartz of Camarillo, CA, Daisy Morris, Alma Hemby and Lorraine Sheppard, all of Georgia; brothers, Hallie Swinson, Roy Lee Swinson and Paul Swinson, all of Jacksonville and Albert Swinson of New York; 15 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was conducted Monday at Edgewood Cemetery, Windsor with her daughter, Debbie H. White. The family will receive friends at Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, from 7 until 8:30 p.m. on Sunday and other times at the home of Jackie Toon, Highway 305, Windsor. Garrett Funeral home is in charge.
