NCHS-East student stabbed

CONWAY – A teen was stabbed after an altercation at Northampton County High School-East (NCHS-East) on Tuesday, according to the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Wardie Vincent reported that a fight broke out in the early afternoon in the gymnasium part of the high school. The fight resulted in a 14 year old from Woodland being stabbed once in the upper right thigh area.

Sheriff Vincent said Anthony Gilchrist, 17, of Margarettsville has been arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon and carrying a weapon on school property.

His bond was set at $2,000 secured.

The 14 year old was transported to Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie and his condition is unknown at this time.

Both are students of the high school.

Vincent said investigation of the incident is still pending.

On Wednesday, counselors and extra officers were placed at NCHS-East, according to Vincent.

Metal detectors were used to search students and officers checked the building to make sure it was secure.
