MURFREESBORO – On Tuesday the Murfreesboro Town Council approved Police Chief Darrell Rowe to seek funding for an addition to the Murfreesboro Volunteer Fire Department.

Rowe sought the council’s approval that would allow him to seek funding for an addition onto the existing building for a meeting room space.

“We all know the fire deparment needs room,” said Town Administrator Molly Eubank to the board. “We should give them a place to work. I think we should keep this on the front burner and not let it die.”

Rowe said after the meeting he was going to Fayetteville to attend a grant workshop to fund the addition.

Rowe added that a loan from USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) would be the “best second option.”

Councilman Bill Stephens said it was the first time he had heard about the topic.

Stephens was referring to the bids for the addition that were before the board for consideration.

“We need to study this and look at all the options available,” he said.

Councilman Bill Theodorakis agreed with Stephens.

“We haven’t

heard a thing about it,” Theodorakis said. “What are our options?”

“Sometimes we get pushed into things,” Stephens said. “We need to look at this more orderly.”

Rowe explained that he was “just looking into it.”

“We can’t do anything until you vote on it,” Rowe said.

Coucilwoman Sarah Wallace made a motion to approve research into the grant, which was seconded by Councilman Lloyd Hill.
