Frederick Bracy
AULANDER n Frederick Harvey Bracy, 78, a native of Bertie County, died January 29, 2007 at his home in Halifax, Va.
Bracy worked for Sherwin-Williams for many years.
Survivors include a sister, Laura Bracy Smith of Aulander; and a brother, Malcom Bracy of Ahoskie.
A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, February 10 at 11 a.m. at Massey Funeral Home in Aulander.
John C. Little
SEABOARD n John Calvin Little, 66, died February 3, 2007 at Wake Medical Center, Raleigh.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Seaboard Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Seaboard Baptist Church.
Little was a member of Seaboard Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, member of the Seaboard Lions Club and a former member of the Seaboard Volunteer Fire Dept. He retired from Odom Correctional Institution and he was a farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Glover Little; his mother, Emma Little; his daughter, Amy Blythe of Raleigh; a son, Greg Little of Seaboard; and three grandchildren.
Myldred Dawson
WINDSOR n Myldred Gupton Dawson, 85, a native of Warren County, died February 2, 2007 at the Woodlands in Houston, Texas. She was the widow of William T. Dawson.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cashie Baptist Church by the Rev. Jack Byrd. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Walker Funeral Home from 9-10:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning before the service.
Mrs. Dawson taught school in Gates County, Halifax County, Arlington, Va., and Bertie County. She was a member of Cashie Baptist Church, the WMU and taught Sunday School.
Survivors include a son, William T. Dawson Jr. of Conroe, Texas; a brother, Frank Gupton of Littleton; two sisters, Magnora Davis of Warrenton and Lillie Mae Shearin of Arocola; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
William Alexander
EURE n William Norfleet “Pest” Alexander, 81, a native of Gates County, died February 3, 2007 at his home. He was the widower of Frances Curle Alexander.
Alexander’s body was donated to the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. A memorial service was conducted Monday at Miller Funeral Home by the Rev. Bob Skeens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Eure Christian Church Parking Lot Fund, Hwy. 137, Eure, NC 27935.
Alexander was a retired car salesman. He was a member of Eure Christian Church, the Gatesville Masonic Lodge #126 and the Gates County Chapter #335, the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include two daughters, Debbie Massa of Arvada, CO and Angie Lilley of Eure; three sons, Tom Alexander of Sunbury, Bill Alexander of New Bern and Jerry Alexander of Ahoskie; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Linwood Harmon
SOUTHERN PINES n Linwood E. Harmon, 89, a native of Bertie County, died February 1, 2007 at his home.
A funeral was conducted Saturday at Boles Funeral Home, Southern Pines. A graveside service was held Sunday at Ahoskie Cemetery.
Harmon was a retired golf course superintendent and course builder.
Survivors include his wife, Annie Holland Harmon; sons, Roger Harmon and Gene Harmon, both of Aberdeen; sisters, Hazel Francis of Aulander and Carolyn Reynolds of Augusta, Ga.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
George Phillips
ROCKY MOUNT n George Phillips, 66, died February 1, 2007 at Nash General Hospital.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Rocky Mount.
Harry Lee Rountree
MIDDLEBURG, Fla. – Harry Lee Rountree, 76, a native of Gates County, died February 3, 2007.
Rountree retired as branch head of the Manufacturing Division, Naval Air Rework Facility, Norfolk. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and was a radio communications supervisor aboard the USS Curtiss during the Hydrogen Bomb test at Bikini Atoll in 1954. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Virginia Beach. Survivors include his wife, Aliene Burton Rountree; a daughter, Teresa Rountree Williams of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sons, Ronald D. Rountree of Middleburg and Alan D. Rountree of Orange Park, Fla.; a sister, Evelyn R. Lassiter, of Sunbury; two brothers, Robert H. Rountree of Burlington, and Ralph M. Rountree of Williamsburg; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Riverside Memorial Park, Jacksonville. Town & Country Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, Fla., is in charge.
Hazel B. Lawrence
GATES – Hazel Babb Lawrence, 85, a native of Suffolk, Va., died February 4, 2007, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. She was the widow of M. Watson Lawrence Sr.
Mrs. Lawrence was a retired food service director of Gates County High School, she was a member of Gatesville Baptist Church, the Gatesville Senior Citizens Group and an avid quilter.
Survivors include two daughters, Becky L. McLawhorn of Gates and Nancy L. Sharpe of Newport; a son, M. Watson Lawrence Jr. of Gates; two brothers, Clayton W. Babb and Melvin L. Babb, both of Chesapeake; and five grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Gatesville Baptist Church by the Revs. Gene Asbill and Billy Presley. Burial will be in the Lawrence Family Cemetery. Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main St., Gatesville, is in charge. Flowers are welcomed or contributions in her memory may be made to the Memorial Fund of Gatesville Baptist Church, in care of Janet Mizelle, 291 U.S. 158 W., Gatesville, NC 27938.
Mildred Bittle Joynes
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Mildred Bittle Joynes, a native of Como, died February 1, 2007.
Mrs. Joynes received her registered nurse degree from Norfolk Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include a son, Walter Cooper Joynes III; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A chapel service was conducted Monday at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, by the Rev. Warren Withrow and James Christopher. Burial followed at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Eulala Wilson
WINTON n Eulala Wilson, 70, a native of Hertford County, died February 1, 2007 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at South Winton Baptist Church, Winton, by the Rev. Robert Horton. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A viewing will be held from 1:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph Wilson of Winton; two daughters, Sandra Williamson of Rochester, NY and Phyllis Wallace of Bronx; one brother, Winborne Vann of Winton; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Theodore Johnson
GATES n Theodore Johnson, 71, a native of Gates County, died February 3, 2007 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital.
Survivors include a son, Tobias Johnson of Gates; a daughter, Myrtle Horace of Newark, NJ; one brother, Henry Johnson of Gates; two sisters, Mary Boone of Suffolk, Va., and Christine Hunter of Silverspring, MD; and two grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hertford County Undertakers, Gates Chapel, Sunbury.
Johnnie McNair
BROOKLYN, NY n Johnnie Herman McNair, died February 3, 2007 at Brookdale Hospital, Brooklyn.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Long Ridge Baptist Church, Plymouth. A wake will be held from 7-8 p.m. Friday at the Church. Burial will be in G.W. McNair Memorial Gardens, Plymouth. Gilliam Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge.
