WOODLAND – A man is being held in the Northampton County Jail after being charged with rape last Thursday (Jan. 25).

Woodland Police Chief Don Ryan said David Poindexter, 49, of Woodland has been charged with first degree rape and sexual act parental role.

Chief Ryan said the charges stem from an alleged rape of an unrelated family member who was underage at the time.

Chief Ryan said the alleged rape happened four years ago.

The case was first investigated by Captain Daryl Harmon of the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office who then turned over the case to Chief Ryan last Thursday.

Poindexter was arrested in the afternoon the same day (Thursday).

Poindexter is currently being held in the Northampton County Jail on a $50,000 bond.

Chief Ryan said the investigation is currently ongoing.
