Falcon#8217;s 19-point effort wins

WINDSOR – Bertie rolled off 19 unanswered points Tuesday night.

The spurt, which came at the close of the third quarter and the beginning of the fourth period, helped the Falcons break open a tied game and roll past Pasquotank County High School 64-47.

Pasquotank got back-to-back buckets from Justin Mitchell and Nick Whidbee to deadlock the score at 38-all.

The Falcons responded quickly getting a hoop from DeAndre Askew to vault the team on a 19-point roll that would help propel them to the Northeastern Coastal Conference victory.

Orland Dobbin hit two free throws and Darius Wesson scored a bucket and a shot from the charity stripe to give the Falcons to a 45-38 lead after three quarters.

Brandon Brown, who led BHS with 18 points, started the fourth quarter with a three-pointer and a deuce on consecutive scores as the Falcons began to pull away.

Desmond Williams’ score was followed by buckets by Brown and William Credle at the Falcons ran out to a 57-38 edge.

The Panthers were able to score six straight, but Bertie responded with a hoop from Brown and a three-pointer by Irwin Brown as they rolled on to the victory.

Only two Falcons were in double figures in the win with Brandon Brown scoring 18 and Kent Bazemore adding 10. Eight other Falcons found the bottom of the net during the contest.

The contest was one of runs in the first quarter with the Falcons ending the period with the 17-14 upper hand after Credle’s three-pointer to end the period.

The Panthers responded with a hoop from Whidbee and back-to-back buckets from Michael Vontoure to edge ahead 20-17 in the second quarter.

They continued the spurt with hoops by Cordero Riddick and Justin Mitchell.

Bertie began to come back when Travis Bond hit a free throw ahead of a Bazemore hoop.

The Falcons eventually rolled off eight unanswered thanks to more hoops by Bazemore and Brandon Brown.

Pasquotank scored four of the final six points to lead 28-27 at the intermission.

The teams went back-and-forth until the game was tied at 38-all in the third.
