ROANOKE RAPIDS – To say Ridgecroft School girl’s basketball coach Doug Cobbs was not pleased with his team Thursday night would be a gross understatement.

“We got out-played, out-hustled and out-coached,” he said after the Lady Rams lost 60-47 at Halifax Academy. “We need to regroup before Wednesday. That was the worst defensive game we’ve played all season.”

Ridgecroft came into the non-conference affair unbeaten, having rolled up six consecutive wins including a victory over the Lady Vikings earlier in the season.

The game started and ended slowly for Rams as they were outscored 16-4 in the first quarter and 16-13 in the final period.

Jodi Williams led the Halifax Academy effort with 16 points. She was one of four Lady Vikings in double figures. Joining her were Brittney Hamill with 14 points, Sarah Long with 13 points and Brittany Traylor with 11.

Hayes Bryant was the only Ridgecroft playing in double-digits, pouring in 22 points in the loss. Lauren Lilley was next on the talley board with eight points followed by five from Jo Revelle Murray.

April Piland (4), Caitlin Harrison (4), Jessica Bolton (2) and Kristina Cooper (2) rounded out the scoring.

The loss drops Ridgecroft to 6-1 on the season heading into Wednesday night’s contest rematch with the Vikings in Ahoskie.
