Oliver C. Warren

NORFOLK, Va. – Oliver C. Warren, 80, a native of Northampton County, died December 19, 2006, at his residence.

Warren was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church. He retired as a chief petty officer from the U.S. Navy after 24 years of service. He also retired from civil service.

Survivors include his wife, Anne S. Warren; three daughters, Kathy W. Gibson of Knoxville, Tenn., Janet Warren Shimanek of Doylestown, Pa., and Becky E. Edmonds of Norfolk; one sister, Mary Elizabeth Warren of Lasker; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service was conducted Friday at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach by the Rev. Fred Braswell. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Cornerstone Baptist Church, Heartland Hospice or to Virginia Oncology Associates.

ennie P. Madric

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Pennie P. Madric, 75, a native of Harrellsville, died December 18, 2006, at Norfolk Health Center.

Mrs. Madric was a retired certified nurses assistant and also retired in 1989 after 45 years as a domestic engineer.

Survivors include three daughters, Emma M. Lewis of Virginia Beach, Paula D. Madric and Teresa L. Madric, both of Norfolk; a son, Keith L. Madric of Phoenix, Ariz.; three sisters, Leslie M. Madric, Cornelia Madric and Frances Sessoms, all of Wilmington, Del.; two brothers, Walter Madric of Wilmington and Thomas Madric of Daytona Beach, Fla.; three grandchildren; four great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters.

A funeral was conducted Friday at Hale Funeral Home by Linda F. Lawson. Burial was in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk.

Bessie L. Stewart

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Bessie Stewart, 72, a native of Ahoskie, died December 17, 2006, in her home.

Mrs. Stewart was a retired cook for Bayside Healthcare after five years of service. Bessie was a member of the Pembroke congregation of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph Stewart of Virginia Beach; five sisters, Joyce Rouse, Lois Moore, Mary Williams, Sylvia White and Kay Haynes; and one brother, Lloyd Lane, all of Virginia Beach;

A funeral was conducted Thursday in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 184-B Pritchard Road, Virginia Beach, with Brother John Giles. Interment was in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Claude Newell

SCOTLAND NECK n Claude Newell, 76, died December 20, 2006 at Guardian Care Nursing Home.

A funeral will be conducted at 12 noon Saturday at the chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home by the Rev. George E. Battle. Interment will be in London Baptist Church Cemetery.

Vance O. Davis

ROCKY MOUNT n Vance O. “Zeke” Davis, 80, died December 16, 2006 at Nash General Hospital.

A funeral was conducted Saturday at Morning Star Church of Christ. H.D. Pope Funeral Home was in charge.

NASHVILLE n Oliver “Bob” Williams, 62, died December 18, 2006 at Nash General Hospital.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bunn Chapel Church, Nashville. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery. H.D. Pope Funeral Home is in charge.

Donald Williams

ROCKY MOUNT n Donald “Beau” Williams, 51, died December 17, 2006 at Nash General Hospital.

A visitation was conducted Thursday at H.D. Pope Funeral Home.

Romie Faison

GOLDSBORO n Romie James Faison, 91, died December 19, 2006 at Wayne Memorial in Goldsboro.

A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Northeastern Cemetery, Rocky Mount. H.D. Pope Funeral Home is in charge.

Oliver Perry

PERRYTOWN n Oliver Daniel “Dan” Perry, 69, a native of Bertie County, died December 21, 2006 at Chowan Hospital.

A graveside funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Perry family cemetery by the Rev. Tommy Tripp and the Rev. Cecil Harkey. Walker Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to The Leukemia Foundation, 401 Harrisons Oaks Blvd., Suite 200, Cary, NC 27513.

Perry was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and was a veteran of the US Army. He retired after 30 years of service as a highway inspector with the North Carolina DOT.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Duke Perry; three daughters, April P. Bartlett of Hudson, Holly A. Perry of Cary and Becky Perry of Nags Head; two sons, Michael Smith of Murfreesboro and Andy Smith of Eure; and three grandchildren.

Mamie Weaver

AHOSKIE n Mamie Weaver, died December 19, 2006 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday Mt. Siani Holiness Church by the Rev. Janie Burden. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.
