Elizabeth Dixon
MURFREESBORO n Elizabeth Allen Dixon, 88, of the 300 block of Woodridge Drive, died Saturday, December 16, 2006, in Roanoke Chowan Hospital.
Mrs. Dixon was born in Northampton County, was a graduate of Conway High School and a member of Meherrin Baptist Church. She attended Mt. Tabor Baptist Church for over fifty years and served as Sunday school teacher for many years and was a member of the Baptist Women’s Mission.
She was a teacher’s assistant and homemaker. Elizabeth was the widow of Earl Abram Dixon, a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Left to cherish her memory are a daughter, Brenda D. Strickland of Raleigh, NC; two sons, Jerry Dixon and wife, Joan D. of Murfreesboro, NC and Buddy Dixon and wife, Lyn of Charlotte, NC; a daughter-in-law, Diane Dixon of Murfreesboro; eight grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Dixon was predeceased by a son, Joe Dixon.
A celebration service of Mrs. Dixon’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church with the Rev. Wint Hale, Jr. officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family received friends at Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. on Monday and other times at her home.

ENFIELD n Daisy Pittman, 97, died December 16, 2006 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

ROCKY MOUNT n Vance Ovell “Zeke” Davis, 80, died December 16, 2006.

Rommie P. Hood
FAYETTEVILLE n Rommie P. Hood, 54, died December 18, 2006 in Durham, Va. Hospital.
A funeral was conducted Monday at William Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, Spring Lake by Pastor Kim Nixon. Burial was in Sandhills Veteran Cemetery. Purcell Funeral Home, Southern Pines, was in charge.
Hood was a member of the deacon board, usher board and William Chapel FWB male Chorus.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Jones Hood; a son, Rommie Patrick III of Greensboro; a daughter, Tanika Whitaker of Fayetteville; a brother, Jesse Lamont Hood of Conway; two sisters, Sharon Hood of Conway and Margo Gaddy of Troy; and two grandchildren.
Marie C. Evans
SUNBURY – Marie Casper Evans, 77, a native of Gates County, died December 16, 2006, in her home.
Mrs. Evans was a homemaker and former secretary at Chowan Academy. She was a member of Hobbsville Baptist Church, the Gates County Rescue Squad, the Gates County Rescue Squad Auxiliary and the Carter’s Home Extension Club.
Survivors include her husband, Forest Durwood Evans; two daughters, Vicky Hollowell of Sunbury and Virginia Goodman of Gatesville; and five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from noon until 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Hobbsville Baptist Church fellowship hall and at other times at her residence. A funeral will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Hobbsville Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Dannelly and the Rev. Joe Cockrell. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Ethel Bryant
ROCKY MOUNT n Ethel M. Lucas Bryant, 95, died December 16, 2006 at Nash General Hospital, Rocky Mount.

Hazel Bryant
WINDSOR n Hazel Flo Bryant, 93, a native of Toler, Kentucky, died December 16, 2006 at her home.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Greens Cross Baptist Church by the Rev. Michael Bailey. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth, Va. The family will receive friends at their home on Tuesday. Walker Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge.
She was
a homemaker and a member of Greens Cross Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Jimmy Brown of Windsor and Ronnie Brown of Wackashaw, WI; one daughter, Bernice Hewitt of Martinsburgy, OH; one brother, Curtis Scites of Chesapeake, Va.; one sister, Ada Ditze of Rocky Hock; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Joan N. Reid
AHOSKIE n Joan Ardeen Niser Reid, 57, of 841 Ahoskie-Cofield Road, died Saturday, December 16, 2006, in an automobile accident in Winton, NC.
Mrs. Reid was born in Baltimore City, MD, a daughter of the late Parker Dix Niser and Anna Marie Tyler Parker.
She was a graduate of Baltimore City Community College School of Nursing, and worked as a teacher’s assistant in the Hertford County Public School System.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Alton Reid; a daughter, Tisha Reid of Baltimore, MD; a son, Joespf Reid of Mt. Airy, MD; a foster daughter, Sharon Klochko of Baltimore, MD; two sisters, Eva Barnett of Baltimore, MD and Anna Mae Poulson of Dallas, TX; a brother, Harry Niser of the Phillipines; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration service of Mrs. Reid’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 21, 2006, at Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, with the Rev. Dr. John Dutton officiating.
Burial will follow in the Reid Family Cemetery near her home.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, and other times at the home.
