Merry Hill woman killed

MERRY HILL – Roanoke-Chowan area roadways claimed another victim here on the morning of Dec. 8.

Irene Warren Sutton, 65, of Merry Hill lost her life in a two-vehicle accident on NC 45.

North Carolina State Highway Patrol Trooper Jan Raines reported that Sutton, driving a 1991 Chevrolet passenger car, pulled onto the roadway from a convenience store parking lot and was struck by a log truck traveling on NC 45.

That truck, owned by Cahoon Logging of Belhaven, was driven by William Cecil Furlough Jr. of Plymouth.

Furlough was not charged in the accident.
