AHOSKIE – Warrants have been drawn for a Virginia man suspected of a murder that occurred here early Saturday morning.

Curtis Lee Thomas, 36, of Norfolk, Va. is wanted for first degree murder, attempted first degree murder, first degree burglary and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The two victims in the case, whose identities were not released by the Ahoskie Police Department, were in an upstairs apartment at 213 West Hayes Street where officers responded to a call at 2:45 a.m. Saturday.

There, APD officers found a male shot in the upper torso and a woman suffering a gunshot wound in the leg. The male was transported to Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie. Once stabilized, he was airlifted to Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville where he later died.

The medical condition of the female victim is not known. She was able to give officers a synopsis of what occurred, saying her ex-boyfriend (Thomas) entered the apartment from the rear door and started to shoot a rifle at her new boyfriend and her. Several shots were fired.

APD Sgt. Ty Metzler and Patrol Officer Stephen White responded to the call, as did Hertford County EMS. Other law enforcement officers were called to help search for the shooter.

At approximately 10:45 a.m., a second call was received, one that placed Thomas back near the area of the crime scene. He was seen driving a dark blue or black pick-up truck. That vehicle has an unknown Virginia license tag. The rear window is either completely broken out or has plastic taped over the opening.

Thomas is described as a black male, 5’-5” in height and weighing 120 pounds. He has a short haircut and brown eyes.
