Elois Wiggins

COFIELD n Elois Jones Wiggins, 84, a native of Hertford County, died November 18, 2006 at Sibley Memorial Hospital, Washington, D.C. She was the widow of Cola Wiggins.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Philippi Baptist Church by the Rev. Belinda Smith. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hunter’s Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Mrs. Wiggins was a member of Philippi Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Christopher Wiggins of Washington; one daughter, Catherine Puryear of Williamsburg, Va.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Elsie Boone

GATES n Elsie Boone, 78, a native of Gates County, died November 20, 2006 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Stoney Branch Baptist Church by the Rev. Wesley Boone. Burial will be in the Boone family cemetery. Hunter’s Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

She was a member of Stoney Branch Baptist Church, Gates.

Survivors include two sons, Bobby Boone of Gates and Wesley J. Boone of Gatesville; one sister, Dorothy Boone of Gates; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Bessie Felton

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Bessie Felton, died November 21, 2006 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

Garfield McNair

JACKSON n Garfield McNair, 92, died November 21, 2006 at Halifax Regional Medical Center, Roanoke Rapids.

Marie K. Cuthbertson

COMO n Marie Key Cuthbertson, 90, of the 200 block of George Parker Road, died Thursday, November 23, 2006, in Nansemond Point Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Suffolk, VA.

Mrs. Cuthbertson was born in Swain County, NC, and was a member of Buckhorn Baptist Church.

She was a homemaker and the widow of Earl Delbert Cuthbertson, Sr.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Martha C. Harrell and husband, Lloyd of Raleigh, NC, and Phyllis C. Perry and husband, Lee of Suffolk, VA; her sons, Earl Delbert Cuthbertson, Jr. and wife, Corrine of Canaan, NH, Stephen Paul Cuthbertson and wife, Kay of Kitty Hawk, NC, and Samuel James Cuthbertson and wife, Sally of Bastrop, LA; a sister, Frances Kee Guffie of Chesapeake, VA; 13 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, James Herman Kee.

A celebration service of Mrs. Cuthbertson’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 25, 2006, at Buckhorn Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. J. Brabban officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family received friends at Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. on Friday.

Flora Dukes

WILMINGTON – Flora Dukes, 66, died November 20, 2006.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Second Baptist Church Union.

Burial will be in the Dukes Family Cemetery.

BALTIMORE, Md. – Robert L. &uot;Dobbie&uot; Speller, 68, died November 11, 2006.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Gilliam Funeral Home Chapel, Windsor.

Eddie Frank Stancell

PENDLETON n Eddie Frank Stancell, 84, a native of Northampton County, died November 19, 2006 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

A funeral will be conducted at 12 noon Saturday at Zoar Missionary Baptist Church, Pendleton, by the Rev. Charles Tyner Sr. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Hood Funeral Home, Conway, is in charge.

Marguerite Gatling

WINDSOR n Marguerite “Peggy” Link Gatling, 95, a native of Lenoir, died November 23, 2006. She was the widow of Richard Jordan Gatling.

Mrs. Gatling graduated from high school in Lenoir and received her BA Degree from Agnes Scott College. She later taught school in Windsor.

Survivors include one daughter, Elizabeth &uot;Betsy&uot; Gatling Holmes; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Edgewood Cemetery in Windsor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bertie Memorial Hospital Development Council, P.O. Box 431, Windsor, NC 27983 or to the Lawrence Memorial Library, 204 Dundee St. Windsor, NC 27983. Walker Funeral Home is in charge.

Garfield McNair

JACKSON n Garfield McNair, 92, died November 21, 2006 at Halifax Regional Medical Center, Roanoke Rapids.

A funeral was conducted Friday in the chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home by Bishop Dready Manning. Interment was in Chapel Grove Memorial Cemetery, Garysburg.

Johnnie W. Burch

POWELLSVILLE n Mr. Johnnie W. Burch, age 94, of Powellsville, died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2006 at his home.

Mr. Burch was born July 28, 1912, the son of the late Joe Mark Burch and Annie Mary Bass Burch. He was a retired farmer and a proud Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Dunlow Burch; his daughter, Freida Ingram and her husband, Henry of Aulander, NC; two grandsons, Chad Wheeler and his wife, Jennifer and Nick Ingram, all of Aulander, NC. Also several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Sunday, Nov. 26, 2006 at 2:30 p.m. at Stoney Creek Cemetery in Powellsville with Rev. Robert May and Rev. Ed Davis officiating. The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Aulander, Saturday from 7 until 9 p.m.
