Gracie E. Eggleston

GATES – Gracie E. Eggleston, 69, died November 15, 2006.

A funeral was conducted Sunday in New Hope Baptist Church. Stallings Funeral Chapel, Gatesville, was in charge.

Jethro Kee

HOBBSVILLE – Jethro Kee, 56, died November 16, 2006.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Joppa Missionary Baptist Church. Stallings Funeral Chapel, Gatesville, is in charge.

Arthur W. Smink

WINDSOR – Arthur Wilson &uot;Bill&uot; Smink, a native of Norfolk, Va., died November 16, 2006, in Bertie Memorial Hospital.

Swink joined the U.S. Marine Corps in July 1950 and served two tours in Japan, eight months on the USS Coral and two tours in Vietnam.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy &uot;Paige&uot; Thompson Smink; his daughter, June S. Shea of Norfolk; and his son, Jonathan Stacy Smink of Kill Devil Hills; a sister, Sandy McDaniel of Virginia Beach, Va.; and five grandchildren.

James Foreman Jr.

ROCKY MOUNT n James Herbert Foreman Jr., 59, died November 16, 2006 at Nash General Hospital, Rocky Mount.

A visitation will be held Tuesday from 5 until 7 p.m. at H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Rocky Mount.

Norman E. Mitchell

VIRGINIA BEACH n Norman Elvin Mitchell, 85, a native of Bertie County, died November 18, 2006 at Sentara Bayside Hospital, Virginia Beach.

Mitchell was a member of Colerain Baptist Church.

After serving in the U.S Navy during World War II, he worked as plant superintendent for Hampton Roads Department of Sanitation.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Bunch Mitchell; two stepdaughters, Mary Faye Huntemann of Virginia Beach and Barbara Jean Menching of Gulfport, FL; five stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat grandchildren.

A celebration service of Mr. Mitchell’s life will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, by the Rev. Gary Cline.

Entombment will be at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in Gardens of Faith Cemetery, Lumberton.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 9 until 10 a.m. Tuesday, prior to services.

The family requests that flowers be omitted and donations be made to Lynnhaven United Methodist Church, 1033 Little Neck Road, Virginia Beach, VA, 23452, or to Colerain Baptist Church, 202 North Main Street, Colerain, NC, 27924.

Mary W. Avent

ROCKY MOUNT n Mary W. Avent, 91, died November 17, 2006 at Guardian Care Nursing Home, Rocky Mount.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Thornes Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will be in Northeastern Cemetery. H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Rocky Mount, is in charge.

O. Robert Webb

AHOSKIE n Oral Robert “Bozie” Webb, 48, a native of Martin County, died October 30, 2006, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Webb was a truck driver.

Survivors include his son, Robert Marc Webb of New Jersey; his mother and stepfather, Jack and Mary Elizabeth Morris of Ahoskie; and three sisters, Helen Keen of Wilson, Rita Liverman of Ahoskie and Elizabeth Wommack of Tenn

A cremation was performed in Broward County, Fla.

The cremated remains will be returned to Ahoskie where the family will announce a memorial service at a later date.

Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, is in charge.

Eddie Stancell

GALATIA n Eddie Frank Stancell, died November 19, 2006 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Hood Funeral Home, Conway, is in charge.

John J. Bazemore

WINDSOR n John Jasper Bazemore, died Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at Bertie Memorial Hospital, Windsor.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Morris Shearin. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Windsor. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is handling the arrangements.

Survivors include one daughter, Patricia Williams of Hampton, Va.; and one grandchild.

William W. Hall

COFIELD n William W. Hall, 55, a native of Hertford, died November 18, 2006 at his residence.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Philippi Baptist Church by the Rev. Alton Hall Jr. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.

Survivors include her mother, Thelma Weaver of Murfreesboro; four brothers, Sheldon Hall and Grady Hall, both of Cofield, George Hall of New York City and Alton Whitfield of Greensboro; and five sisters, Emma Everett of Murfreesboro, Lorraine Coleman of Rio Grande, NJ, Theresa Hall of Cofield, Ruby Ford of Maryland and Peggy Wilson of Winton.

Milton Porter

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. n Milton Bernard “Peabody” Porter, 55, a native of Southampton County, Va., died November 17, 2006 at Memorial Hospital, Jacksonville.

A funeral will be conducted at Saturday, November 25 at Bright Lilly Disciples Church of Christ. Burial will be in White Oak Spring Baptist Church Cemetery. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.

Survivors include his mother, Doris Williams of Franklin; one daughter, Tawanda Jones of Norfolk; one brother, Larry Porter of Hollindale; five sisters, Margaret McIntosh of Washington, D.C., Dorothy Marie Gary of Seattle, Wash., Gwendolyn Laverne Jones of Jacksonville, Monthell Belinda Chapman of Carrolton and Doris P. Nealy of Miramar; and four grandchildren.
