Nadia Joyner

GERMANY – Infant Nadia Alyssa Joyner, one-month-old, died November 12, 2006 at Universitaetsklinikun Heidelburg Hospital, Heidelburg, Germany.

She was born on October 6, 2006 in Germany to Laytonia Joyner of Germany and Michael Coleman Charlotte; one sister, Skyla Joyner of Germany; maternal grandparents, Linwood and Sharia Joyner of Ahoskie; and maternal great-grandmother, Laura Langford of Woodland.

Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Soul Saving Station by Bishop Val Malendez.

Burial will be in Joyner family cemetery. Hunter’s Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie is in charge.

Hettie S. Williams

CHESAPEAKE, Va. n Hettie Spruill Williams, 93, a native of Bertie County, formerly of Governor’s Road, Roxobel, died November 16, 2006 at George Washington Rehabilitation Center. She was the widow of Ben J. Williams.

A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Sandy Branch Baptist Church by the Rev. Lycurgus Harrell. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.

Mrs. Williams was a self-employed farmer. She was a member of Sandy Branch Baptist Church and a member of Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include her sons, Ben Williams Jr. of Portsmouth and Allen McKinley Williams of Edgewater Park, NJ; a daughter, Geneva White of Harrisburg, PA; sisters, Sarah Hardy of Aulander and Ola Mae Smith of Windsor; a brother, Jack Spruill of Norfolk; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Dexter Johnson

ROCKY MOUNT n Dexter Xavier Johnson, 33, died November 13, 2006.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Morning Star Church of Christ. Burial will be in the Gardens of Gethsemane. H.D. Pope Funeral Home is in charge.

Carl Jordan

SEVERN n Carl Jordan, 73, died November 14, 2006 at Rich Square Health Care.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Severn, Severn, by Elder Ronald S. Barnes. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hood Funeral Home, Conway, is in charge.

Viola Gatling Parker

Viola Parker died peacefully in her home on Tuesday, November 14, 2006 at 2:00 a.m. Viola was born on February 22, 1917 in Mapleton, North Carolina. She was 89 years old. Viola was a faithful Christian and was a long time member of Parker’s Grove Baptist Church where she attended until her health would not allow her to. She was married to the late Wilmer Parker and to this union they had nine children. She leaves to cherish her memory Betty Lou Cousins (Hank), Luther James Parker (Sadie), Geraldine Manley (Bernard), Lessie Mae Parker, Wendell Parker (Brunet) and Jerrod Parker (Joyce). She raised two grandchildren as her own, Vineta Watson (Leverne) and Ronald Majette (Demetra). She also raised a nephew Stafford Gatling (Von). She also leaves a daughter-in-law, Gloria Parker (the late AW).

Viola has 17 grandchildren and 20 and 1 to be born great-grandchild. One brother, Eley Gatling and one sister, Delia Vaughan of Mapleton, NC. Also Viola had a very dedicated and loving healthcare provider, Marrian Jordan of Mapleton, NC. While Viola may not be here in body, the legacy of her family lives on.

The funeral arrangements will be held at Parker’s Grove Baptist Church in Mapleton, NC on November 18, 2006 at 12:00 noon. Burial will follow in the Gatling Cemetery. Hertford County Undertakers are in charge.

Lloyd Bazemore

WINDSOR n Lloyd Richard Bazemore, 91, a native of Bertie County, died November 16, 2006 at his home.

A graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Edgewood Cemetery by the Rev. Jim Cox. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at Walker Funeral Home. Memorial gifts may be made to either University Hospital Hospice, PO Box 272, Ahoskie, NC 27910 or to the Leukemia Association.

Bazemore was a Baptist and the owner and operator of Lloyds Shoes for man years.

Survivors include his wife, Clarene Asbell Bazemore of Windsor; two daughters, Evelyn Castelloe and Sybil Bazemore, both of Windsor; a sister, Mable B. Shores of Barboursville, Va.; two brothers, Cecil Bazemore of Ahoskie and Herman Bazemore of Poquoson; and three grandchildren.

Erma L. Flythe

PENDLETON n Erma Lee Flythe, died November 15, 2006 at his residence.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Zoar Missionary Baptist Church, Pendleton, by the Rev. William Denson. Burial will be in the Flythe Cemetery. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

He was a member of Zoar Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Ernest M. Flythe Jr. of Murfreesboro; five daughters, Eva M. Foy of Georgia, Kathleen Beale and Elizabeth Griffin, both of Virginia Beach, Va., Nita Randall of Detroit, Mich., and Linda F. Peele of Pendleton; one brother, Leroy Majett of Conway; two sisters, Lizzie Beale of Virginia Beach and Gradie Hill of Norfolk; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

John Bazemore

WINDSOR n John Jasper Bazemore, died November 15, 2006 at Bertie Memorial Hospital.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Olive Baptist Church by the Rev. Morris Shearin. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Windsor. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

He was a member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Patricia Williams of Hampton, Va.; and one grandchild.

Genia B. Brown

GATES — Genia Buck Brown, 42, a native of Norfolk, Va., died November 16, 2006 at Sentara Obici Hospital, Suffolk.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Reynoldson Baptist Church by the Rev. John Wilkinson and the Rev. Billy Presley.

A private burial will be held in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family Saturday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main St., Gatesville, and all other times at the residence. Flowers will be accepted or contributions in her memory may be directed to the Youth Dept. of Reynoldson Baptist Church, in care of Charles Cale, 8353 Longstreet Lane, Suffolk, Va. 23434.

Mrs. Brown was a teacher in the Science Dept. of Gates County High School, she with her husband was the co-founder and operator of the Gates County Championship Rodeo that has been held annually in May for the past nine years. She was a member of Reynoldson Baptist Church, where she was an active worker with the youth and had formerly served as the director of Sunday School.

Survivors include her husband, Aaron S. Brown; her daughter, Alexa Brown; her son, Austin Brown; her mother, Mary Edlar Wiggins Buck; her father, Ronald Gene Buck; her brother, Eugene Buck; and her maternal grandmother, Alcora Wiggins, all of Gates.
