Margaret Jenkins

POTECASI – Mrs. Margaret Reab Lassiter Jenkins, age 91, died on November 4, 2006. Born to Sarah Thomas Adelade Barnes Lassiter and Leonard Green Lassiter, her entire life was spent in Northampton County, NC.

On December 27, 1936, she married James Harry Jenkins. They began their married life by settling in the town of Conway, NC. In the next few years as they began to expand their family, they decided to move from Conway to their family farm. There they raised their four sons, who were very fortunate to have had the experience of being raised on a farm. She, along with her family, were active members of Potecasi Baptist Church.

She was a devoted wife, loving and caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a loyal friend to many. During her years of raising a family, she managed a farm, as well as being employed. She worked for the Northampton County Health Department for 20 years, work that she dearly loved, as well as the friends, which she made while working there.

Surviving are two sons, Harry P. Jenkins of Durham, NC, Barry J. Jenkins and his wife Julie of Garner, NC: five grandchildren, Lynn Jenkins and his wife Holly, Christopher Jenkins and Angel, Kathy Bowers and her husband Stewart, Jeannie Jenkins, and James Jenkins. Also surviving are three great grandchildren, Caitlyn Jenkins, Donnie Jenkins, Kyndall Jenkins, Harmon Hill Bowers, and also, nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her mother, Sarah Thomas Adelade Barnes Lassiter, her father, Leonard Green Lassiter, her husband James Harry Jenkins, her sons Donald Lynn Jenkins and Dwight LaMarr Jenkins, a grandson, Dwight LaMarr Jenkins, Jr., as well as a sister, Gertrude Virginia Lassiter, two brothers, Theodore Green Lassiter and Leonard Flynn Lassiter.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Friday, November 10, 2006 at Potecasi Baptist Church in Potecasi, NC, with interment in the church cemetery. Officiating will be the Reverend Robert Deacon, the Reverend Willie McLawhorn, and the Reverend Arthur Jenkins.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 9, 2006, in the evening from 7:00 until 9:00 P.M., at Sykes Funeral Service in Rich Square, NC.

Eddie Lawrence

AHOSKIE – Eddie James Lawrence, 70, a native of Bertie County, died November 3, 2006, in Roanoke-Chowan Hospital.

Lawrence was retired from Union Camp in Franklin, Va.

He was a member of Pollock’s Ferry Hunt Club and an Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Greene Lawrence; and two sisters, Mae Cummings of Ahoskie and Cora Vaughan of Colerain.

A celebration service of Mr. Lawrence’s life will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Garrett Funeral Home, by the Rev. Tommy Tripp.

Burial will be in Highland Memorial Gardens.

Rosa H. Baker

YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. – Rosa Mae Hofler Baker, 81, died October 31, 2006.

A funeral was conducted. Sunday in New Middle Swamp Missionary Baptist Church, Corapeake. Stallings Funeral Chapel, Gatesville, is in charge.

Cora B. Eagles

Mt. Jackson, Va.: Cora Mae Blowe Eagles, 69, of the 200 block of Tisinger St., formerly of Aulander, N.C., died November 3, 2006.

She was a native Hertford County, N.C., the daughter of the late Carlton and Bertha Futrell Blowe, a member of St. John Baptist Church, a retired secretary and homemaker. Besides her parents she was predeceased by a sister, Marian B. Joyner.

Surviving are her husband, John Eagles, Mt. Jackson, Va.; one sister, Annie Ray Hall, Conway, N.C.; two brothers, Robert Blowe, Aulander, N.C., and Royce Blowe, Greensboro, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral fervice will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 8, 2006 at Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, N.C. with Rev. Robert M. May officiating. Burial will follow in Job Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 7, 2006, and will assemble at the funeral home at 12:00 noon prior to services Wednesday.

Garrett Funeral Home is serving the Eagles family.

Eunice Holloman

CENTRAL ISLIP, NY n Eunice Holloman, 90, a native of Hertford County, died November 1, 2006 at Silver Lake Center, Dover, DE.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Parker’s Grove Baptist Church, Murfreesboro, by the Rev. Fernando Temple Sr. Burial will be in Carver’s Park Cemetery. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.

Survivors include one son, Floyd Calvin Holloman of Jacksonville; two daughters, Barbara Hearns of Dover and Patricia Joyner of Central Islip; one brother, Josiah Parker of Newport News, Va.; one sister, Rosetta Majette of Boston, MA; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
