LEWISTON n Joyce Rascoe Williams, 44, a native of Martin County, died September 26, 2006 at Bertie Memorial Hospital.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Springhill Baptist Church, Lewiston, by the Rev. Patrick Walton. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Cherry’s Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge.
Mrs. Williams was a homemaker.
She is survived by her father, Johnnie Rascoe Sr.
Mattie Southgate

GREENSBORO n Dallas Whittington, 45, formerly of Rocky Mount, died September 28, 2006 at Wesley Long Community Hospital, Greensboro.

Virginia Vann
MURFREESBORO n Virginia Dare Parker Vann, 93, died Tuesday, September 27, at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie. She had been predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Luther R. Vann, by an infant son, Randolph L. Vann, and by her six brothers and sisters, Vernon S. Parker, Mary P. Edwards, W.H. Parker, Vera P. Womble, Rousseau P. Louder and John T. Parker.
A native of Northampton County, she was a homemaker devoting her life to her husband, children, grandchildren, and Ashley’s Grove Baptist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Jessica V. Davenport and husband, Thomas, of Williamsburg, VA; one son, Randy Vann and wife, Becky, of Rocky Mount; five grandchildren, Van Davenport (Sandy), Bryan Davenport (Tracy), of Myrtle Beach, SC, David Davenport (Ranell) of Plymouth, MN, Chris Vann (Heather), and John Vann of Rocky Mount; seven great-grandchildren, Paige, Seth, McKenzie, Parker, Sophia, Brianna, and Reid Davenport; and a special friend and companion, Daisy Baker of Murfreesboro.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, 2 p.m. at Ashley’s Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. David Ross officiating. Burial will follow in Ashley’s Grove Baptist Church Cemetery on the church grounds.
The family received friends at Bridgers Funeral Home, Inc., in Conway, Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and at other times at the family home in Murfreesboro. They have requested that anyone wishing to share a memorial gift, please do so to the Murfreesboro Rescue Squad.
Dorothy L. Dilday
CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Dorothy Lee Dilday, 80, a native of Colerain, died September 26, 2006 at Maryview Medical Center. She was the widow of Walter R. Dilday.
Dot was a retired waitress. She was an active member of Deep Creek United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Carrie Wright Circle and the Mary Tyus Sunday School Class.
Survivors include three sons, Larry L. Dilday and Michael W. Dilday, both of Chesapeake, and Jodie D. Dilday of Charlotte; one sister, Gray Horton of Suffolk; two brothers, Joseph Lee of Colerain and Darrel Lee of Ahoskie; 15 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Dot’s life will be celebrated in a service conducted in Deep Creek United Methodist Church, 141 N. George Washington Hwy., Chesapeake, Saturday at 2 p.m. followed by interment in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Dot’s name to the Mary Lee Library at Deep Creek United Methodist Church or to a Parkinson’s Disease Foundation of your choice. ROANOKE RAPIDS n Tinika Guy, 27, died September 26, 2006 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.
A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Springfield Baptist Church, Littleton, by the Rev. John Rooks. Interment will be in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home.
Edward Tyler
MIDDLETOWN, CT n Edward “Boy Blue” Tyler, 66, a native of Bertie County, died September 27, 2006.
A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Eveninglight Church of God in Christ Jesus, Windsor, by Overseer Luther Cherry. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.
Tyler was a retired worker with Town of Enfield. He was a member of Eveninglight Church of Christ Jesus.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah Louise Raynor Tyler of Middletown; one daughter, Annette Tyler of Middletown; brothers, Willie Tyler of Portsmouth, Va. and Charlie Tyler of Middletown; sisters, Emma Cherry of Windsor, Mary Tyler of Colerain and Sarah Jane Williams of Rich Square; godchildren, Leon Raynor and Donna McMillian of Middletown; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Charlie Lassiter
RICH SQUARE – Charlie Lassiter, 99, a native of Northampton County, died September 25, 2006 Hampton Woods Health and Rehab in Jackson.
Lassiter was a member of Second Baptist Potecasi Church in Potecasi.
He was a veteran of WWI while serving in the US Army and was a member of VFW Post 9159.
Survivors include three daughters, the Rev. Dorothy Joyner of Rich Square, Luvenia Brower of Cathage and Gloria Moyd of Bronx, NY;
one brother, Alexander Lassiter of Ahoskie; three sisters, Mary Taylor of Potecasi, Catherine Joyner of Decatur, GA and Roberta Bowser of Ahoskie; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a host of great-great-grandchildren..
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Second Baptist Potecasi Church, Potecasi, by Biship Linwood Batt.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.

AHOSKIE – James O. Eason, 84, a native of Hertford County, died September 24, 2006 at his residence
Survivors include three sons, Timothy Eason of Rich Square, Gary Eason of Ahoskie and Ronnie Eason of Brooklyn, NY;
one daughter, Gail Eason of Ahoskie;
one brother, Robert Eason of Murfreesboro; five sisters, Darlene Eason and Janice Eason of New York, Ola Mae Grant, Sylvia Boone and Mary L. Eason, all of Ahoskie, NC; 10 grandchildren;
and a host of great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hunter’s Funeral Home Chapel, Ahoskie,
by the Rev. Jarvis Parker.
