WINDSOR n Lincoln Watson, 54, died September 11, 2006 at his home.

A funeral was conducted Sunday at Gilliam Funeral Home, Windsor. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Jayden Riggsbee

ONLEY, MD n Jayden D. Riggsbee, infant, died September 13, 2006 at Montgomery General Hospital, Onley.

A funeral was conducted Sunday at Gilliam Funeral Home Chapel, Windsor. Burial was in the Stark-Walton Cemetery, Kelford.

Ruth Williams

PINETOPS n Ruth R. Williams, 66, died September 9, 2006 at her residence.

A funeral was conducted Sunday at Pines Chapel Baptist Church. Burial was in the Carver Park Cemetery, Pinetops. H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Rocky Mount, was in charge.

Mary Butler

WINDSOR n Mary Louise Scott Palmer Butler, 6, died September 16, 2006 at Bertie Memorial Hospital.

A memorial service was conducted Monday at Massey Funeral Home, Aulander.

Survivors include her children, Carol Jones of Aulander, Bettie Cooper of Askewville, Mark Palmer of Aulander and James David Palmer of Maryland.

William P. Hall

AULANDER – William Porter Hall, 64, died September 16, 2006 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Millennium Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Paul Edwards. Burial will be in Job Cemetery. Massey Funeral Home, Aulander, is in charge.

Hall was a member of Millennium Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Cooke Hall; his children, Karen James, Renee Norman, Penny Evans, William “Bill” Hall Jr. and William Conrad Hall; his sister, Kathy Davis; and his brother, Jimmy Hall, both of Ahoskie.

Jean F. Spivey

HOBBSVILLE – Jean Fletcher Spivey, 74, a native of Berryville, Va., died September 15, 2006, in Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville. She was the husband of J. Lester Spivey.

Mrs. Spivey was a retired postal clerk and mail carrier, she was a member of Warwick Baptist Church and Gatesville Chapter No. 335, The Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include her daughter, Teri S. Moore of Hobbsville; her son, Rex A. Spivey of Garner; her sister, Rae F. Harpe of Oakton, Va.; and her grandsons.

A funeral was conducted in Warwick Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Charles Jones, the Rev. Russell Blanchard and the Rev. Darrel Davis. Burial followed on the family plot at the church. Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, is in charge. Memorial contributions may be made to Warwick Baptist Church, 4314 Virginia Road, Hobbsville, NC 27946.

Margaret W. Smither

SUFFOLK, Va. – Margaret Wilson Smither, 81, a native of Gates County, died Sept. 14, 2006, at Nansemond Pointe.

Mrs. Smither formerly worked at Seaboard Bank and for many years was a caregiver for families in the Suffolk area.

Survivors include a brother, Woodrow Wilson of Courtland; and her granddaughters.

A funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the graveside in Holly Lawn Cemetery by the Rev. Jim George. R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory was in charge.

Nell V. Davis

MURFREESBORO n Mrs. Nell Vinson Davis, age 81, died September 18, 2006 at Autumn Care in Rich Square, NC.

Mrs. Davis was born July 30, 1925, the daughter of the late Jasper Vinson and Idell Futrell Vinson. She was also preceded in death by her husband of sixty years, Oscar Davis. She worked for many years at Belk Tyler’s and was a member of Meherrin Baptist Church.

Survivors include her children, Al Davis and his wife, Janet, Larry Davis and his wife, Susan, and Joan Davis Dixon and her husband, Jerry, all of Murfreesboro, NC; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 20, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Meherrin Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy Sellers officiating. Burial will follow at Meherrin Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, NC, from 7 until 8:30 p.m. and other times at the home of her son, Larry Davis, 751 Pinetops Rd., Murfreesboro, NC.

Memorial contributions may be made to Meherrin Baptist Church.

Turner Rankins Jr.

AHOSKIE -Turner Rankins “JR” and “Grandday” Jr., 67, a native of Bertie County, died September 14, 2006 at Albemarle Hospital, Elizabeth City.

Rankins was a member of Ashland Missionary Baptist Church, Merry Hill and was employed with White Brothers Trucking Company as a truck driver.

Survivors include his children, Willie Rankins of Boston, MA, Shelton Rankins of Colerain, Loretta Rankins Hyman of Hobgood and Gloria Williams of Powellsville; five sisters, Esther Stanley, Dea. Barbara Outlaw, Loaney Weaver, Virginia Perry and Gertrude White, all of Powellsville; two brothers, Norman Rankins of Harrellsville and Dennie Rankins of Powellsville; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Ashland Missionary Baptist Church, Merry Hill, by the Rev. W.J. Best. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home Inc., Aulander, is in charge.

William R. Hoggard

GOLDSBORO –

William Robert “Robert” Hoggard, 67, a native of Hertford County, died September 15, 2006 at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Hoggard of the home; sons, Ronald Hoggard of St. Louis, MO, Kevin Hoggard of Champaign, IL, William Hoggard of Sidney, and Randall Hoggard of Indianapolis, IN; daughter, Sherri Hoggard of St. Louis; sisters, Mary Scott of Portsmouth, Va., Etta Vaughan, Louise Hoggard and Jean Fennell, all of Ahoskie; and his brothers, James W. Hoggard of Tampa, FL and Arthur Hoggard of Portsmouth.

A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wilder’s Funeral Home Chapel, Aulander. Burial will be in Wilders-Cherry Family Cemetery.

Also a funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at McIntyre Funeral Home, Goldsboro. A viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at McIntyre Funeral Home.

Sabra Baker

WINDSOR n Sabra Mizelle Baker, 82, a native of Bertie County, died September 18, 2006 at her home. She was the widow of Herbert J. “Spot” Baker.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Capehart’s Baptist Church by the Rev. Bruce Dayton and the Rev. Tim Parker. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Walker Funeral Home, Windsor, and other times at the home. Memorial gifts may be made to either University Hospital Hospice, PO Box 272, Ahoskie, NC 27910 or Capehart’s Baptist Church, Merry Hill, NC 27957.

Mrs. Baker was a retired inspector with Blue Bell, Inc., and a member of Capehart’s Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Cindy B. Kelly of Wanchese and Dianne B. Bracy of Newport Richey, FL; a son, Keith Baker of Windsor; two sisters, Nola M. Evans of Merry Hill and Edith M. Fuller of Boone; a brother, Finley Mizelle of Windsor; and two grandchildren.
