ROCKY MOUNT n Mary Lena Deans, 75, died August 14, 2006 at Nash General Hospital.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, Rocky Mount. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery. H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Rocky Mount, is in charge.

William Cherry

WINDSOR n William McKinley Cherry, 85, died August 14, 2006 at Britthaven Nursing Home, Edenton.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Church of God For All People, Lewiston. Burial will be in the Outlaw family cemetery, Windsor. Gilliam Funeral Home is in charge.

Margaret Knight

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Margaret Knight, died August 15, 2006.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Union Branch Baptist Church, Corapeake. Crocker Funeral Home, Suffolk, is in charge.

Lizzie Deloatch

CONWAY n Lizzie Pearl Deloatch, 65, died August 16, 2006 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church, Jackson, by the Rev. Harold Sidbury. Burial will be in the Deloatch-Edwards family cemetery. Faison’s Funeral Home, Inc., Seaboard, is in charge.

Survivors include her husband, James C. Deloatch of New Brunswick, NJ; two brothers, Ivey Majette Jr. of Rich Square and Jimmy Majette of Conway; and four sisters, Rockie Patterson of Jackson, MaLinda Edwards of Greensboro, Bessie Majette of the home and Lessie Ridley of Conway.

William Cherry

WINDSOR n William McKinley Cherry, 85, a native of Bertie County, died August 14, 2006 at Britthaven Nursing Home, Edenton.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Church of God For All People, Windsor, by Pastor Joseph Watson. Burial will be in the Outlaw family cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.

Cherry was a member of Mt. Ararat Baptist Church and a veteran of World War II. He was a retired textile worker.

Survivors include his wife, Clara E. Outlaw of Windsor; two daughters, Deloris Bazemore of Portsmouth, Va., and Leona Pardo of Brooklyn, NY; one brother, Milton Cherry of Norfolk;, Va.; one sister, Wyland Burden of Aulander; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Gus Grant Jr.

PENDLETON n Gus Stancell Grant Jr., 73, died August 14, 2006 at Nash General Hospital.

A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Hood’s Funeral Chapel, Conway, by the Rev. J.T. Grant. Burial will be in the Grant family cemetery, Potecasi. A viewing will be held at the funeral home from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday where the family will receive friends.

Helen Perry

EDENTON — Helen McMullan Swanner Perry, 82, a native of Chowan County, died August 17, 2006 in the Skilled Nursing Unit of Chowan Hospital.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Edenton Baptist Church by Dr. Jesse J. Croom and Dr. Kenneth Word.

Burial will be in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Evans Funeral and Cremations are in charge. Memorial contributions may be made to Edenton Baptist Church Building Fund, 200 S. Granville St., Edenton, NC 27932.

Mrs. Perry was a member of Edenton Baptist Church and retired as a medical assistant at Chowan Medical Center.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph Eugene “Gene” Perry; a son, Carroll McCoy Perry of Edenton; a daughter, Gloria Jean Perry of Atlanta, GA; a sister, Rebecca Swanner Wheeler of Edenton; a brother, Ernest Morgan Swanner of Edenton; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

Isaiah Wilkins

RALEIGH — Isaiah Wilkins, infant, son of Darrell and Kimesa Gatling Wilkins, died August 14, 2006 at Rex Hospital.

A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Arrington family cemetery, Jackson, by the Rev. Elliott Mason. Wyatt-Grace Funeral Home, Suffolk, Va., is in charge.

He is also survived by a sister, Maliayha Wilkins.
