Conway crash injures five

CONWAY – Five young men were injured in an accident near here in the early morning hours of Sunday.
According to a report filed by the North Carolina Highway Patrol, a 2003 Ford pickup truck was being driven west on S.R. 1545 at a high rate of speed around 5:30 a.m.
The truck reportedly ran off the road on the left side and overturned several times.
The operator of the vehicle was listed as Christopher Nicholas Alston, 22. There were four passengers in the truck. They were Robert Creech, 18, Richard Spradlin, 22, Stuart Ferguson, 20, and Shawn Smith, 18.
According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol in Roanoke Rapids, all five men were taken to hospitals, though details were not available. The destinations were believed to have been a mixture of Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie, Halifax Memorial Hospital in Roanoke Rapids and Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
The Highway Patrol listed alcohol and speed as contributing factors in the accident.
No charges have been filed in the incident.
