Minnie L. Riddick

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Minnie Louise Riddick, 82, of N. 40th Street, died July 13, 2006. A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, Sunbury. Stallings Funeral Chapel, Gatesville, is in charge.

Shondale Pittman

ROCKY MOUNT n Shondale Lorel Pittman, 31, died July 14, 2006 in San Diego, CA.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in Gardens of Gethsamane. A visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. at H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Rocky Mount.

Faye Simmons

MERRY HILL n Faye Brown Simmons, 51, a native of Bertie County, died July 17, 2006 at Pitt Memorial Hospital. She was the widow of Benjamin Lee Simmons.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Windsor Assembly of God Church by the Rev. Chuck Gray. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery. Walker Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge. Memorial gifts may be given to Merry Hill Volunteer Fire Dept.

Mrs. Simmons was a homemaker and a member of Windsor Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include her mother, Mary I. Brown of Merry Hill; two daughters, Kristy Dunlow of Windsor and Kimberly Simmons of Wilmington; two sons, David Simmons Sr. of Windsor and Michael Simmons of Merry Hill; one sister, Mary C. Pike of Merry Hill; and five grandchildren.

COMO – Bettie Bishop, died July 18, 2006 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital.

HERTFORD – Martha O. McDonald Griswould, 90, died July 13, 2006.

A funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in New Bethlehem COGIC, Windsor. Rowsom Funeral Home, Edenton, is in charge.

Lance Fountain

AHOSKIE – Lance Fountain, 40, a native of Suffern, NY, died July 11, 2006 at his residence.

Fountain was a member of Greater Harvest Fellowship COGIC and a veteran of Desert Storm in Iraq for the US Marines.

Survivors include his wife, Audrey Fountain of Ahoskie; two daughters, Ashley Michelle Fountain and Andrea Nicole Fountain, both of Ahoskie; his parents, Samuel White Sr. and Ina White of Wendell; two brothers, Monte Fountain Jr. of Louisburg and Samuel White, Jr., both of Raleigh; and one sister, Yvette Gales of Atlanta, GA.

A funeral was conducted Saturday at Greater Harvest Fellowship COGIC, St. John, by Bishop Leroy Woolard. Burial was in Highland Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Hunter’s Funeral Home, Inc.,

Laurie Hulin

LASKER n Mrs. Laurie Harrison Hulin, age 68, of Church Street, Lasker, NC, died July 18, 2006 at Johnston-Willis Hospital in Richmond, Va.

Mrs. Hulin was born Nov. 15, 1937 in Nash County, NC, the daughter of the late Nathaniel Emelius Harrison and Sally Skinner Harrison. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Charles J. Hulin III. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, daughter, aunt, and friends a devoted church worker; a gifted musician and artist; an opera lover and an avid gardener.

Survivors include her son, Charles J. Hulin IV and his wife Kathy of Richmond, Va.; and two nephews, Bill Harrison and Nat Harrison and his wife Debra.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 21, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Lasker Baptist Church with Rev. Ricky Barnes officiating. Graveside services will be at Maplewood Cemetery, Durham, NC, Friday at 3:30 p.m.

Jo Jo Archer

POWELLSVILLE n Jo Jo Archer, died July 16, 2006.

A funeral will be conducted at 12 noon Saturday at Roanoke Chowan Community College, Ahoskie, by the Rev. Thomas Lee. Burial will be in Philippi Baptist Church Cemetery, Cofield. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Archer was a member of Wynn’s Grove Baptist Church, Colerain.

Survivors include a son, Raquan Vann; a daughter, Jaliyah Archer, both of Greenville; his mother, Minister Carol Cherry of Ahoskie; his father, Jo Jo Cherry of Middletown, Conn.; his paternal grandmother, Emma Cherry of Powellsville; two brothers, Allen Cherry of Powellsville and Eric Cherry of Iraq; and three sisters, Rhonda Archer and Shakima Cherry, both of Middletown and Jassmine Cherry of Windsor.

Mollie Harper

RICH SQUARE n Mrs. Mollie Dunning Harper, age 79, of Rich Square, NC, died Tuesday, July 18, 2006 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie, NC.

Mrs. Harper was born April 2, 1927 in Northampton County, NC, the daughter of the late Julian Dunning and Ruby Mae Smith Dunning. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John C. Harper. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church.

Survivors include her brother, Godwin Matt Dunning and his wife Margaret of Newport News, Va. Two nephews, Michael and Stephen Dunning.

A memorial service will be held Friday, July 21, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Grace Baptist Church in Rich Square.

The family will receive friends after the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Baptist Church.

Annie Farless

AHOSKIE n Mrs. Annie Morris Parker Farless, age 89, of Ahoskie, NC, died July 18, 2006 at Guardian Care in Ahoskie, NC.

Mrs. Farless was born January 23, 1917 in Hertford County, NC, the daughter of the late Julian Morris and Gennie Bryant Morris.

Survivors include her daughter, Violet P. Hollowell of Pine Forest Rest Home, Woodland, NC.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, July 20, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Edgewood Cemetery in Windsor, NC, with Rev. Marie Jones officiating.

The family will receive friends after the service at the cemetery.
