Irest B. Bunch
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. n Irest B. “T. Bunch” Bunch, 60, a native of Bertie County, died June 29, 2006 at his residence.
Bunch was a graduate of Carver High School, a member of New First Baptist Church of Taylorsville, Portsmouth. He also retired from Northrop Grumman, Newport News.
Survivors include Irest Donnell Bunch of Chesapeake; a sister, Barbara Ann Malloy of Cleveland, Ohio; a brother, Michael L. Bunch of Newport News; and five grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in New First Baptist Church of Taylorsville by the Rev. Marcus D. Brown Sr. Burial will be in the Wilder Family Cemetery, Hexalena Road, Ahoskie. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.
Helen Todd
WINDSOR n Helen Butler Todd, 74, died June 29, 2006 at Bertie Memorial Hospital. She was the widow of Johnnie Washington Todd.
A funeral was conducted Sunday at Siloam Baptist Church by the Revs. Jimmy Cox, Ashby Browder, Preston Jernigan and Michael Bailey. Burial was in Coburn family cemetery. Walker Funeral Home was in charge. Memorial gifts may be made to University Hospital Hospice, P.O. Box 272, Ahoskie, NC 27910.
Mrs. Todd was a member of Siloam Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Survivors include her daughters, Carol T. Holley, Helen T. “Sissy” Pierce, Terry T. Smith, Tammy T. Anders, Bonnie T. Hoggard and Bobbi Jo T. White, all of Windsor; sons, William J. “Shorty” Todd of Windsor, G. Ray Todd of Greenville, Johnnie F. Todd of Africa, Jimmie L. Todd of Washington, Dannie W. Todd of Greenville, SC, Russell N. Todd of Windsor and Van Q. Todd of Lusby, Md.; a sister, Jean B. Copeland of Williamston; 32 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Mary Walker
BALTIMORE, MD. n Mary Walker, 73, formerly of Rocky Mount, died June 30, 2006 at Sinai Medical Center, Baltimore.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Marks A.M.E. Church, Rocky Mount. Burial will be in Gardens of Gethsemane. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Rocky Mount. Condolences may be sent to www.hdpopefuneralhome.com.
Rosa L. Edwards
PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Rosa Lea Edwards, 72, a native of Seaboard, died July 1, 2006 at home.
Mrs. Edwards attended school in Northampton County and graduated from Gumberry High School. She worked at General Electric for 20 years and Verbatim for seven years. She was a member and deaconess of New Mount Olivet Baptist Church, Portsmouth.
Survivors include her husband, Deacon William H. Edwards; three daughters, Janet Demory, Sondra Edwards and Twanda Edwards, all of Portsmouth; a son, William D. Edwards of Portsmouth; two sisters; a brother; seven grandchildren; and nine great- grandchildren.
A homegoing service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at New Mount Olivet Baptist Church, Portsmouth, by the Rev. Milton R. Blount. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake. Corprew Funeral Home, Portsmouth, is in charge. Viewing at the funeral home will begin at 4 p.m. Tuesday. The body will be taken to the church at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Ann B. Mangum
APEX – Ann Lewis Buffaloe “Big Mama” Mangum, a native of Jackson, died June 30, 2006, at home. She was the widow of Harry L. Mangum Sr.
Mrs. Mangum attended Park View Hospital Nursing Program in Rocky Mount. She was a nurse.
Survivors include her daughters, Ann Mangum Warner of Washington, D.C., Brenda Kennedy of Norfolk; her son, Harry L. Mangum Jr. of Apex;
seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A graveside services was conducted Monday at Montlawn Memorial Park by the Rev. Clyde Johnson. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Wake County, 1300 St. Mary’s St., fourth floor, Raleigh, NC 27605. HOBBSVILLE n Lee Etta Brinkley, 88, a native of Gates County, died June 30, 2006 at the Brian Center.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Joppa Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. W.D. Wiggins. Burial will be in the Kee family cemetery. A wake will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.
Survivors include two sons, Charlie Brinkley of Waterbury, Conn., and Geney Brinkley of Chesapeake, Va.; three daughters, Margaret Brown of Sunbury, Barbara Stanley of East Hartford and Clarine Holley of Hobbsville; 31 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Harold Alexander
MURFREESBORO n Harold Lee Alexander, 90, a native of Crestfield, died June 30, 2006 at North East Medical Center, Concord.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Nebo Baptist Church, Murfreesboro, by the Rev. Robert Holloman. Burial will be in Carver Park Cemetery. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.
Survivors include four sons, William Alexander of Philadelphia, Pa., Donald Alexander of New Jersey, David Alexander of Murfreesboro and Rickie Alexander of Belmont; one daughter, Gloria Chilaka of Murfreesboro; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
