WINTON – Four local teenagers are scheduled to appear in court July 25 to answer charges related to recent acts of vandalism at the Tuscarora Greens golf course in Winton.

Hertford County Sheriff Juan Vaughan said that on Monday July 17, Chief Deputy Ronnie Stallings had arrested Brandon Minton and Bobby Futrell, both

of Aulander, along with Christopher Neil Proctor of Ahoskie and Zachary Ellis White of Harrellsville and charged each of the 16-year-olds with crimes related to property damage that occurred at the golf course on two separate occasions.

Doug White, owner of Tuscarora Greens said that someone had entered his facility on June 21 and July 3 and vandalized various areas of the course.

&uot;Someone put two of our electric carts in the pond on hole number three and another cart was found in the swamp on number two,&uot; White stated. &uot;There was also evidence that someone had driven the carts across some of our greens and left tire marks.&uot;

White said most of the vandalism, which included broken flagsticks and damage to some tires, was cosmetic in nature and estimated approximately $10,000 worth of restoration needed to be done. He said the only permanent damage that had been done was to the psyche of the people who utilize the course.

&uot;We’ve had a pretty significant public response,&uot; White said. &uot;People were amazed that someone would do such a thing. It took a lot of man hours to get the course back in shape.&uot;

Minton and White were charged with two counts each of injury to personal property and injury to real property.

Proctor and Futrell were both charged with one count of injury to personal property.

The four teens are currently free on bond.

White said there would be changes in the security procedures at the course in response to the vandalism.

&uot;We will be changing some of the ways we secure equipment, particularly the golf carts,&uot; White confirmed. &uot;Local law enforcement has also informed me that they would step up patrol of the area as well.&uot;
