Pedestrian killed on U.S. 13

AHOSKIE – A 24-year-old Ahoskie man was killed in the pre-dawn hours near here Sunday morning as he walked along U.S. 13 just south of Ahoskie.
Jo Jo Archer Jr. of 132 Liverman Mill Road was struck and killed at approximately 5:20 a.m., according to a report filed by North Carolina State Highway Patrol Trooper Jason Jones.
Jones’ report showed that Archer was about one-half mile south of Ahoskie at the time of the accident.
Archer was struck by a 1998 Oldsmobile driven by Courtney Winborne, 17, of Republican Road, Aulander. That vehicle, which was traveling south on U.S. 13, is owned by James Edgar Lee Jr. of the same Aulander address.
No charges were filed in the accident.
Archer’s death brings the number to five of individuals who have lost their lives in motor vehicle accidents in Hertford County since Jan. 1. His was the first pedestrian fatality of the year.
