Roger E. Watson

HALIFAX n Roger E. Watson, 45, died June 13, 2006 at Halifax Regional Medical Center, Roanoke Rapids.

A funeral will be conducted at 12 noon Saturday at H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids, by the Rev. Christopher Mallory.

Joe Dunning

WINDSOR n Joe Dunning, 60, a native of Bertie County, died June 6, 2006 at Three Rivers Nursing Facility.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Walker Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Roger Leggett.

Survivors include two brothers, William Dunning of Windsor and Edgar Dunning of Ahoskie; and a sister, Gladys Woodard of Sylva.

Rosa A. White

WINDSOR n Rosa Asbell White, 85, a native of Bertie County, died June 14, 2006 at Chowan Hospital, Edenton. She was the widow of Howard White.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Walker Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to University Hospital Hospice, P.O. Box 272, Ahoskie, NC 27910.

Mrs. White was a homemaker and a member of Greens Cross Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Judith W. Thum of Pine Bluff, AK and Kimberly Daniels of Merry Hill; two sons, Eddie White of Nags Head and Billy White of Williamston; four sisters, Clarene Bazemore of Windsor, Faye Barmer of Roanoke Rapids, Sue Wilson of Chesapeake, Va., and Ruby South of West Jefferson; three brothers, Paul Asbell of Williamston, Roy Asbell of Wilson and J. Perly Asbell of Los Vegas, NV; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Brenda Sharpe

ROCKY MOUNT n Brenda Lee Sharpe, 54, died June 9, 2006 at UNC Hospital, Chapel Hill.

A visitation was held Friday at H.D. Pope Funeral Home.

Glenda Ryan

WINDSOR n Glenda F. Ryan, 42, died June 12, 2006 in her home.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Church of God In Christ For All People, Lewiston. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Gilliam Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge.

Homer Sexton

BRONX, NY n Homer Cicero Sexton, 72, a native of Rich Square, died June 10, 2006.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Branches Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. Tony Flood. Interment will be in the Sexton family cemetery. Lionel Whidbee Funeral Home, Rich Square, is in charge.

Albert C. Booth

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Albert C. Booth, 70, a native of Cofield, died June 12, 2006, in Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center.

Booth retired as a sanitation worker for the City of Portsmouth after 40 years. He was a member and usher of Centennial Baptist Church, Portsmouth.

Survivors include his wife, Doretha Booth; stepdaughter, Mary Diggs of Portsmouth; four stepsons, Sinclair Simon, Larry Simon and Michael Simon, all of Portsmouth and Tom Simon of Norfolk; and a host of stepgrandchildren.

A graveside funeral was conducted Friday in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake, by the Rev. Robert Addison. Corprew Funeral Home was in charge.

Bobby J. Byrum Sr.

SUFFOLK, Va. – Bobby James Byrum Sr., 71, a native of Suffolk, died June 13, 2006.

Byrum served his country in the U.S. Army as an M.P. and owned and operated Chuckatuck Granery on his farm in Chuckatuck.

Survivors include eight children, Susanna Presson of Windsor, Sharon Atkins of Chuckatuck, Darlene Byrum Harrell of Windsor, Bobby James &uot;Bud&uot; Byrum Jr. of Corapeake, Walter S. Byrum of Chuckatuck, Joanie B. Gillette of Courtland, Kara Beth Eason of Ivor and Levi Daniel Byrum of Chuckatuck; 18 grandchildren; two sisters, Alice Byrum and Grace Davis, both of Suffolk.

The funeral was conducted Friday in the Sidney F. Harrell Chapel of Harrell and Hill Funeral Home by the Rev. Don Milner. Burial followed in Holly Lawn Cemetery. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Lung Association of Virginia, 5349 E. Princess Anne Road, Norfolk, VA 23502.

James F. Smallwood

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – James Frank Smallwood, 67, a native of Woodville, died June 11, 2006, in Rochester, Minn.

Smallwood was a member of the National Rifle Association.

Survivors include his wife, Anna W. Smallwood of North Carolina; two daughters, Janine Smallwood and Malika Foster; three sons, William Sykes, Christopher Smallwood and Dwight Washington; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Burial will be conducted at noon Monday in Thompson family cemetery, Woodville. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at noon Friday. The family will be at the funeral home from 5 to 6 p.m. Saturday. The body will be taken to Reynolds Funeral Home, Ahoskie, for viewing Sunday and Monday until the burial.

Nannie P. Jones

JACKSON – Mrs. Nannie Parks Jones, age 87 died peacefully at the Hampton Woods Nursing Home in Jackson on Friday, June 16, 2006.

She is a native of Northampton County. Mrs. Jones was a member of the Jackson United Methodist Church.

She was a former member of the Women’s Society of Christian Services.

Preceding her in death are her mother and father, Kate and Oscar Parks, her husband, James Vernon “Bud” Jones, her son Raymond C. Jones, her sister Lottie Jones and her brothers, Robert, Raymond, Sam and Benjamin Parks.

Survivors include two daughters, Peggy Jones of Jackson and Betty Lonchar and her husband Charles of Beaver, PA, three sons, James L. “Frog” Jones and his wife Hazel, Vernon L Jones and his wife Ellen of Jackson and David Jones and his wife Pat of Jackson.

Also surviving are three grandchildren, Jenny Jones, Michael and Mark Lonchar.

Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, June 18, 2006 at 2 P.M. at the Jackson United Methodist Church with the interment following at the Jackson Cemetery.

Officiating will be the Rev. Paul Lee.

The family will receive friends at the Jackson United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall on Saturday evening 7:00-8:30 P.M.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. n Queenie E. Wynn, 83, a native of Hertford County, died June 5, 2006 at Kaiser Hospital.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, by the Rev. Carter. Burial will be in Philippi Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include two sisters, Beulah Smith of Ahoskie and Janice Terry of Ahoskie.
