Dorothy Overton

AHOSKIE – Dorothy Louise Overton, 61, a native of Bertie County, died May 31, 2006 at Bertie Memorial Hospital.

A funeral was conducted Saturday, June 3 at Elm Grove Baptist Church, Aulander, by the Rev. Anthony Ward. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.

Overton was a retired caretaker for the disabled.

Survivors include a son, Stacey Bunch of Murfreesboro; and a sister, Etherlene Hill of Ahoskie.

John Williams

GREENVILLE – John Williams, 60, died June 14, 2006.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Mount Arie Holiness Church, Windsor. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Gilliam Funeral Home, Windsor, is in charge.

Jewell Lake Johnson

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Jewell Lake Johnson, 94, a native of Roxobel, died June 6, 2006, in Seattle, Wash. She was the widow of Hugh “Red” Johnson.

She was a member of Western Branch Baptist Church.

Survivors include her brother, Edgar McGee “Red” Wimbrow Jr. of Colonial Heights; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Loving Funeral Home, Churchland Chapel, with visitation one hour prior to the service. The burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Cedarwood Cemetery Weldon. Clarence Bunch

EDENTON n Clarence Edward Bunch, 79, a native of Chowan County, died June 5, 2006 at Britthaven of Edenton.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Beaver Hill Cemetery by the Rev. Dr. James Horton. Friends may join the family Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, Edenton, and all other times at the home of his daughter, Virginia Jones, 304 Riverby Farm Road. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or to any Alzheimer’s Support Group.

Bunch was a farmer and a member of Rocky Hock Baptist Church. He was also a veteran of the US Army.

Survivors include his wife, Inez Hughson Bunch; three daughters, Evie Sue Riddick and Joyce Ann Briggs, both of Sunbury and Virginia Fay Jones of Edenton; two sons, Clarence Edward “Eddie Bunch Jr. of Gatesville and James David Bunch of Edenton; a sister, Carolyn Rogerson of Hertford; three brothers, Lindsey Ray Bunch and Alvin Bunch, both of Edenton and Ralph Bunch of Windsor; two stepsisters, Beth Stalls and Elva Stroud; three stepbrothers, Ray, Rudy and Jerry Tolley; 11 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one stepgreat-grandchild.

George Cumbo

CONWAY n George Cumbo, 83, a native of Northampton County, died June 6, 2006 at Hampton Wood Nursing Care.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Conway by the Rev. Walston. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.

Survivors include his wife, Minnie Hart Cumbo; and a brother, Troy Sanders of New York.

Bryant Sims

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. n Bryant Lee Sims, 80, died May 31, 2006.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hunter’s Funeral Home Chapel, Ahoskie, by the Rev. Carl Valentine. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Rosa Lee Sims of Newport News; four sons, Caslee Sims of Ahoskie, Artamus Sims of Hartford, Conn., Arthur Sims of Georgia and Rod Sims of Suffolk; five daughters, Linda Mwamba of Raleigh, Donna Davis, Barbara Sims and Jacquline Simes, all of Newport News and Tracy Ruffin of Ahoskie; and host of grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Lottie Weaver

LEWISTON n Lottie Gilliam Weaver, died June 7, 2006 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Woodville Plains Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert Walton. Burial will be in the family cemetery, Lewiston. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Survivors include her husband, Gene Weaver of Lewiston; two sons, Andre Jones of Ahoskie and Dorian Weaver of Lewiston; two daughters, Valerie Wiggins of Ahoskie and Dawn Weaver of Lewiston; three sisters, Barbara Carter of Seat Pleasant, MD., Sarah Peele of New Castle, DE and Maxine Robinson of Hampton, Va.; and 12 grandchildren.
