40 tops 102

AHOSKIE – Edenton Post 40 beat Ahoskie Post 102 16-1 in a Senior American Legion game here Tuesday night.

Edenton opened the scoring with two runs in the top of the first. They added one in the top of the third to take a 3-0 advantage.

Ahoskie scored its only run in the bottom of the third.

Jacob Harrell singled to right and went to second and third on respective groundouts by Michael Burton and Aaron Hoggard.

Ben Bright plated Harrell on an RBI-single to center that trimmed the deficit to 3-1 after three complete innings of play.

Post 40 added a run in the fourth to take a 4-1 lead.

In the bottom of the same inning, Dustin Briggs was hit by a pitch and went to second on a Heath Britt single to right field.

With one out, Tucker Warren reached on catcher’s interference to load the bases. A strikeout and a groundout ended the threat with Edenton holding the three-run advantage.

Edenton added a run in the top of the fifth and then broke the game open with five runs in the top of the sixth, gaining a 10-1 lead.

Post 40 added six runs in the seventh.

Briggs started the contest and pitched four innings, suffering the loss. Dusty Todd, Bright and Jonathan Brantley also pitched in the outing.

Ahoskie produced sixth hits in the contest, all coming from different batters. Those who had hits were Lance Thomas, Jacob Harrell, Joe Harrell, Hoggard, Bright and Britt.

Ahoskie dropped to 0-7 with the loss and will play Rocky Mount at home tonight (Thursday) at 7 p.m. They will play at Snow Hill Friday at 7 p.m.
